So I'm a GT thats supposed to be going to Cornell this coming fall. I just got my official acceptance package and email and everything. Anyway, my problem is that I'm really worried about my grades.. First semester I did decently, and ended up with A's in everything except for a B in Chem 1. This semester, my midterm grades were exactly the same (straight A's, and a predicted B for Chem 2). My final grades are looking like they'll be straight A's in everything except Chem again, which is fine except for the fact that I'm really really worried my chem grade might end up as a C+. The requirements for the GT were that I keep a 3.0 gpa overall and get B's or higher in all my required courses... And unfortunately, since my predicted midterm grade of a B, I've had two tests in Chemistry, one of which I failed due to being really upset and unfocused over a bad breakup I had the day before the test with my boyfriend of two years.. Which is such a stupid and sucky reason to fail an exam, but whatever. :/ Anyway, so I worked out my grades and I apparently need to get an A on the final next week or I'm going to end up with a C+. I think I have a chance of getting an A if I study hard, but in case I don't I want to set up a plan of action. Who would I contact at Cornell about this/what should I say?? I'm supposed to send in my final grades in a few weeks, but I want to contact them before I do that of course. I'm hoping they'll go easy on my since all my other grades are pretty good, but I'm worried since I'm an Animal Science major and Chem is kinda important for that...

From everyone I have spoken to and what I have read- a C will be ok and you will still get credit for the class. I am in the same boat as you with my statistics grade, if all other grades are ok, I think we shall be fine. Just be calm and if you get a C and all of your other grades are high, I can’t imagine Cornell rescinding the offer.

Yeah, I don’t really see them rescinding the offer if all your other grades are so good. Anyways if it does end up going the other way, just e-mail the school which you are applying to, not just the general Cornell e-mail, and explain your situation. Don’t sound too desperate or anything though, just a small little explanation on that one class I’m guessing would be fine.

Not sure what happens with people who are accepted, like if you’re assigned advisor’s and stuff after being accepted, so I’m only going by someone who isn’t accepted yet, they would probably e-mail the Admissions Office of the college to which they applied to (CAS, CALS, etc.)

You’re doing so good in all your other classes too, so that should make up for it. Don’t try to think about getting a low grade though, just put that class over the others for the time being (since you’re doing pretty good in the others), and put a ton of focus on acing this last and final exam. And I have heard of people asking the same exact question, and think there are a few threads on this, and most of the time it has gone through pretty well search around and hopefully it makes you feel better lol

Not sure if any of your classes usually drop the lowest grade or something, but obviously if you have an A in a class and still have a test left, just have that one dropped. The more classes it happens to means the more time you’ll have for that chem test. Good luck on it though, you’ll do well!

I would go see your chemistry professor now. Explain to him about your last test, let him know you are studying very hard for the final. If you should do well on your final, but not necessary an A, it would be a much easier conversation to ask him to give you a B-/B. It could happen. You have nothing to lose.

PMing you Cindy…
