UGLIEST Campuses

So I saw the thread on the Top 10 Most Beautiful Campuses, so I thought I might start a thread on the ugliest campuses just to give some more perspective.

Personally I have only visited a few campuses: JHU, Umich, Brown but the one I found just flat out unappealing was the Wayne State University campus. If you don't know WSU is located in Detroit and the buildings were old and very dirty. Then again the medical center (where I currently do my research) is very nice!

The Princeton Review's take on this:

Quality of Life - Campus Is Tiny, Unsightly, or Both

1 Drexel University
2 State University of New York at Albany
3 State University of New York--Purchase College
4 Illinois Institute of Technology
5 New Jersey Institute of Technology
6 The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art
7 Massachusetts Institute of Technology
8 University of Dallas
9 City University of New York--Hunter College
10 Rider University
11 University of Tennessee--Knoxville
12 Rochester Institute of Technology
13 North Carolina State University
14 Clarkson University
15 Harvey Mudd College
16 Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey--New Brunswick/Piscataway Campus
17 State University of New York at Binghamton
18 State University of New York--University at Buffalo
19 State University of New York--Stony Brook University
20 University of Massachusetts--Amherst

UT Knoxville? I went down there for a football game and remember it being alright. Not great but not bottom 20, that's for sure.

I'm amazed NYU isn't on that list in #2, haha. Though we don't really have a campus... so maybe they struck it out of the running... :)

(All right, so it isn't SO bad... there's a lot worse than NYC.)

Although MIT wasn't terrible. It was just unique.

I agree, Wayne State is pretty bad.

Suprised about MIT. Yes, it's giant grey stone buildings, and none of them match, but its a city campus. Frankly, when I walked by it one I thought it was impressive and looked very, well, MIT-ish. Sure, there were the office building-looking buildings, but its main library is giant with beautiful stone carvings on top and different science-y phrases, it had a REALLY cool building (<a href="http://www.eecs.mit.edu/images/big-stata23.jpg%5B/url%5D">http://www.eecs.mit.edu/images/big-stata23.jpg</a>) that was just awesome to look at, and some of its other buildings were pretty as well (Sloan was a giant rotunda). Plus, its riverfront in Cambridge, statues/sculptures/fountains everywhere...I dunno, I really disagree. And when I went by it the first time, it was pouring rain, and it still looked really humbling. It is MIT.
Google Image MIT, you'll be surprised too

But before we depart Boston-area, I think UMass-Boston could be on that list. Sure, some of the buildings looked neat and were really tall, but it was all brick and looked like a giant office park to me. Probably because it's smaller, but whatever. That, and it was raining when I saw it (I did a 40-mi walk in Boston).

That list is outdated...Stony Brook underwent a lot of renovations and looks very nice now...I wouldn't say BEAUTIFUL but then again who in their logical mind goes to a college just because a building is pretty? Will that help you get into grad school?

My friend is attending Stonybrook and she tooks pictures which aren't that bad.

About Hunter College, I attended there for a political science class and it's not an ugly campus, infact, it's view of the Upper East Side from its skywalks is amazing, but the problem is that it's tiny and doesn't have a campus feel.

Cooper Union also looks weird, I understand why it's on the list.

Disagree about the MIT ranking also. It's different, that doesn't mean it's bad.

Tennessee isn't that bad. I mean currently there is construction going on, so that drags it down a bit, but once it's done and new landscaping is added in those areas, it's going to look so much nicer.

And the Hill is gorgeous, no matter what.

Binghamton is extremely depressing

I really hate sprawling campuses.. that really arnt confined in any sort of way

I havent seen many campus....10-15

but my least favorite was Umich............ in no way does that warrant an UGGLIEST rating.... but just not my type

Out of that bunch, Rider has the least excuse. It's not a public, it's not urban, it's not huge . . . LACs are supposed to be idyllic, but Rider looks like it was put together on the cheap. Pretty good school though.

Geez. Eight flippin' New York colleges on the worst campus list?

University of Nebraska-Omaha

Frostburg State University

Frostburg's ok. Better than UMBC imho.

There are many prettier schools out there than the ones within the UMD system, I totally agree.

you stole my thread idea..

i visited one of my friends at st. john's university in queens, ny. the builidings were atrocious
