Hi! I am entering 10th grade this following year, and my parents are telling me I should think about what I want to do when I grow up. I was thinking finance related, a business major, but I have heard there are better majors? If you could leave your thoughts that would be great. Also I plan on going to grad school for MBA.
It is way to early to make a decision. You don’t declare a major until the end of your sophomore year in college. There will be plenty of time to take different classes and see where your interests and aptitudes lie.
I wouldn’t think of the process as ranking majors… you have to find the major and career that is the best fit for you both in terms of what your skills are and what you want to achieve. Do you have any specific strengths or skill sets? What are your favorite courses in middle/upper school?
Do you know what a career in finance is like, how they impact society, and what type of service they provide? Does this align with your goals? Why do you want an MBA?
As @happy1 mentioned, you don’t have to officially declare your major (as in it will show up on your transcript) until the end of your sophomore year typically. That said, you will have to declare one on your college applications before freshman year and it would also help you determine which schools to apply to.
