I screwed up freshman year. (in comparison to the other grades). I got a C and many B's during freshman year. Yet, in 10th and so far in 11th, I have almost straight A's (one or two B's). My class rank is .... not so high. However, if we calculate 10th-11th class rank, I will definitely be in the top 10 people in my school. However, our school does not do that. I want to go to Stanford..and make a long story short.. am i screwed? I have extremely good ec's revolving around my passion, a lot of volunteer service, many awards, and I can write very good essays. So will my freshman year, which basically ruined my class rank and overall GPA, screw me up?

probably not, they don't take into account freshmen grades, + they'll understand the low class rank when they see your freshmen grades.

as long as you took hard classes all through the rest of HS you should be good... + of course ECs passion etc. etc. all that good stuff

They recalculate your GPA. According to what I hear from some people, they do look at class rank but they do not put too much weight on it because every school has a funky way of ranking their students... take my word for it, if you took hard classes and got some crazy ec's, and can write good essays, you should be no problem

what's the use of working at all freshman year, then? I feel like I should have bottled that wasted effort and used it right about now :)

well no matter what rank #1 is gonna look better than any other rank, even if the others have excuses
dont beat urself over working hard in freshman year hehe
i wish i worked hard then, i wouldnt be worrying so much about admissions now if i did

but I am ok right? Really for reals. I have really good ec's, very good sat scores, and already busted two SAT II (bio and world).
dis is my GPA breakdown (unweighted and weighted)
freshman year- uw- 3.53
w- 3.61
sophmore- 3.9
4.5
junior so far 4.0 and weighted is 4.8.

^ ur fine.. you have a solid chance if you took hard courses in 10-11th and right some good essays. Assuming ur SAT I's and SATII's are good, you have a good chance. PM your stats and I can give you my opinion on your weakness.

lucky my only B came in 9th grade..
