So two weeks ago, I thought, "What am I doing?! I don't want to go to UCSD!!" So I called USC to see if there was any way I could change my choice to USC. Luckily and surprisingly, they said yes. So I've been scrambling the past week to send all my stuff in.

PROBLEM: I got my housing stuff today and I'm living in Trojan Hall! From what I hear, this place SUCKS! Can somebody enlighten me on why it sucks? Is it too late to try and change rooms?

ANOTHER PROBLEM: I didn't go to orientation. Two other people from my school are going to USC and I'm not really friends with either of them.

ANOTHER PROBLEM: I'm not registering for classes until the 16th. Will everything be filled up?

I'm kind of a wreck. Oh well. If anyone else is living in Trojan Hall or majoring in political science, holler back.

You're fine.

First, congratulations on your decision. As a San Diegan who has grown up all his life near UCSD but attends USC, at least from my perspective, I'd say you made a good call. Academically, socially, reputationally, athletically... USC excels over UCSD.

Now to addressing your concerns. Problem 1: Trojan Hall is not that bad. It just happens to be where many of the honor students are placed so its social reputation may not be on par with that of, say, New/North, but it all depends on the people you live with. Who knows - New/North may get a group of introverts while Trojan gets extroverts. Plus, if you have friends in other bldg's, you'll likely be out and about there so it's really not a worry.

Problem 2: Again, don't worry. Living in a dorm freshman year all but guarantees (just don't sit in your room all throughout the first few weeks) you'll build up a social network in no time.

3: No, not everything will be filled up. You may not get your first chocie of classes (let's say you need a Category II GE and a particular history class interests you - may not be available) but I'd be onfident you can get in to what you'll need to get into.

Best of luck and again, congrats on your decision.

I agree with all themegastud said. Trojan Hall definitely is not known for being as social as other dorms, but it all depends on who you live by and what you make of the situation. You'll probably make friends with people in other dorms, so you'll be fine socially. And if you really do want to switch buildings, it's not too late. After moving in, there's a little span of time I think, and then you can apply for reassignment.

You won't regret coming to USC!

You actually got into USC owned housing there? Amazing...I was blown off like no other.

hey, thanks i appreciate the advice!
