Uh-Oh Spaghettio

I realize now (a little too late), that I should have taken the Math II SatII, rather than Math I. I got a 710 on Math I, which in Yale standards is no good, however I'm in AP Calc AB now. Will Yale frown upon me not taking Math II? Does that put me at a really bad disadvantage? Taking I and not even scoring superbly on it?

Academic record is more important than test scores. If you've gotten As all throughout high school in math then don't worry about it.

Where did you read that you "should have taken" Math II? I didn't know there was a requirement. Yale asks for any 3 SAT IIs if I'm not mistaken.

One 710 isn't going to do you in, especially if your SAT I scores are good.

Well, it wasn't a "should" take it, necessarily, just that I hear a lot of colleges would prefer to see Math II over Math I if you've taken strong math courses all through high school. And it makes sense.
And well, my SAT I scores aren't that good, at least not the math (610 right now, don't know what happened, praying for a huge jump in my november scores), so I'm just a bit worried. Thank god I didn't put that I planned to major in engineering on my application. What a downer that would have been.

the Math I test has a pretty harsh curve, so 710 isn't that bad for Yale. What is the percentile? I scored a 750 and it was around the 96th percentile, so I'm sure 710 is still pretty good.

Generally, you should take the Math II if you've taken more advanced math courses in high school. But, if you're not majoring in something that has a concentration in math, you should be fine. Your SAT I math score is low though...add that to your Math I (which is decent but not impressive for Yale) and you may have a bit of a problem.

How about your high school math grades and what math class did you finish with...did you do AP? You just don't want to seem like you're weak in math, b/c you'll be up against plenty of kids that are strong in math AND English.

That's the thing. I AM pretty strong in math, just not testing wise. This year I'm taking AP Calc AB. I've had As in all of my math courses (Alg. IH, Geom.H, Alg. IIH, Precalc. H) and this year I have a high B, low A so far, but Yale won't see that right now anyway. At any rate, I hope it doesn't kill me. But it may well end up doing just that.
Ah well, I'll find out in 19 days I guess.
Thanks for all the input guys!

Yeah...if you're taking AP Calc AB and have shown strong math grades through high school, I wouldn't let it worry you too much. Good luck!

Ah. I hope that's the case. Thank you very much. :)
