Uh Ohhhh

ok
there are two people applying to the SAME college
and they both have the SAME exact STATS
same SATs, GPA, extracurriculars…etc
but the ONE thing they differed in is: when they applied… on the application person A checked off that ENGLISH IS NOT HIS NATIVE LANGUAGE…
now who has a better chance at getting into that college
person A or person B?

probably person A

wat makes u think that....
how so?

person A will be seen as more STUPID though....?
doesnt know english?
can u take that side of it?

If English is really your native language, don't lie about it in hopes of getting an edge.

i never said that

so your saying Person A will have a better edge?
why?
how so?

Umm... just because English isn't your native language doesn't mean you're stupid or don't understand English. I didn't learn English until I was in first grade and I feel that I know the language pretty well.

But if Person A really did have the exact same stats as Person B (meaning that A learned a new language and managed to match the scores of B who didn't have that barrier) then I'd go with Person A... but I'm not an admissions officer.

But you wrote yesterday that you made a mistake and checked off that English was not your native language when it in fact was.

Fix your mistake.

it's not going to matter. there are so many more important factors. it's like asking "will a fly landing on the windshield of my car decrease its speed."

"person A will be seen as more STUPID though....?
doesnt know english?
can u take that side of it?"

That's a ridiculous comment. I'll simply take this chance to point out something that you've solidified for us all: stupid comes in all languages.

"stupid comes in all languages"

What an incredible comment! Love it! Totally agree!!

person A will probably have a better chance just because of the diversity...at the same time, it depends on what the school considers

On the MIt website one of the adcom's blogs talked about something like this; he said somethign to the effect of, "Every year we get people at info sessions who ask, 'If person A and person B are EXACTLY THE SAME, but A is this and B is not, who do you prefer?!?!'" and his answer was, "That will never happen. EVER. So you will never have to worry about it."

Also, people whose first languages aren't English usually score lower on SAT verbal and writing and English standardized tests (this is only my observation of CC boards, though...). So, the person marked "first language is not english" will be considered above normal for that type of person. So I would say "Not English" has the advantage. But like I said, you'll never find an applicant that matches you in every respect except for this one little thing.

So, I agree, fly on a windshield.

Who says they don't both get in?
