Hello! I recently was admitted as a freshman to UH and, to be honest, I have basically limited all my choices for the colleges I applied to down to UH and UT (a&m just wasn’t my thing) . I came to terms that, essentially, I have little to no chance of getting into UT, which was my top choice.
So, if i get my admissions letter back and it says I’ve been rejected, I intend on transferring after 30+ credits (one year?) so I have a few questions:
What would be a GPA to keep my freshman year of college?
how many clubs/organizations should I get involved with?
What else does UT look at in terms of transfer apps?
do they look at high school transcripts/test scores?
any other advice would be helpful! thanks! hook em horns
oh and also! i intend on applying to the college of natural sciences , public health major
Have you or will you consider CAP if it is offered to you? UH does not participate, but UTSA, UTA, UTEP, UTT and a few others do. The minimum for a CAP transfer back to UT is 3.2 based on 30 credits hours of specific courses, so my guess is that you would need at least a 3.2 to be considered, but obviously higher is better.
I am not sure how much EC’s count for transfers --you might want to ask a UT admissions rep.
Here is what the UT website says about transfers: http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/transfer/before/eligibility
Good luck!
yes, i would consider CAP if it’s offered to me! I just would actually have a hard time choosing between CAP and UH, and I honestly am not sure why I feel this way. Would I at least have some sort of chance of transfer acceptance if I do my freshman year at UH?
If you really want to go to UT being admitted thru the CAP program is your best bet. I went to UH years ago and the school has made some major strides. UT is still the top school in the state and if you want to go their I would suggest you embrace the CAP program. We have no background of on high school career so my advice may be incorrect. UH is a fine school and it would not shock me that complete your education their.
@Grainraiser I agree with you, UH is a really good school that is constantly growing and has a good academic standing. however, just for lifestyle/personal preference/future opportunities, I consider UT to be an incredible school as well. I wouldnt be too surprised if I finished my studies at UH either, lol.
@sammysosa havent gotten a response back yet. well, i might have, i would just rather check with my friend. ill get back to you sometime this week!
I have been accepted to UH and given a small scholarship but today I found out I was offered CAP. I was honestly expecting a rejection letter, but I am quite happy with CAP. I am really debating between the two choices and would greatly appreciate opinions. I am currently enrolled with my major being engineering, but I am also very interested in mathematics and physics. My major concern with CAP is it is only guaranteed acceptance into the liberal arts college. The other is I have over 60 hours of duel enrollment already and would not want to retake the general studies I would need to. The biggest dilemma however is the liberal arts thing, it says on UT’s website if you intend on coming in as another major you will be treated as a transfer, so why not just go to UH which I would be happier to stay at and is cheaper. It is just hard not to give up on UT because lets be honest, it is an amazing school. Just for the record, I am not counting out just going to UH completely, I actually like the possibilities there and the scholarship is nice.

Considering that UT only guarantees acceptance from CAP into Liberal Arts, I would go to UH for your first year. At this point, it has a just as good as (if not better) reputation as the UT satellite schools and it’s cheaper. But that’s just me. With acceptance chances kind of equalled out, pick the school you think you’d be most happy at if you were DENIED transfer acceptance after your freshman year. Would you be more okay with staying at UH or the CAP school of your choice?
By the way, I totally understand your TX public school choices. Mine are the same… I’m just not interested in A&M/ Texas State/ Texas Tech. But UH? Strong possibility.
@coopermathworks i have the exact same concerns as you! and i also got cap. in my opinion, Its not worth going to UTSA if im only going to be considered an average transfer student. I would much rather attend UH than UTSA. i guess the idea of just getting your degree from UT is appealing, but at this point not appealing enough for me to not to get my major of choice guaranteed. If you end up picking and going to UH, i look forward to (possibly) attending school with yall!
@burlypapers i never took the idea of seeing which school i would enjoy better if i was denied transfer. at this point, UH does seem like a good option for me. Ive also heard that transferring in is a little easier than being accepted freshman year, just due to the top 10 rule and things of that nature. one of my friends, one of the smartest people i know, with a 2000+ SAT and in the top 11, got waitlisted for UT, which i though was ridiculous
@foreverago lmao, I looked at this again and realized I thought you and @CooperMathWorks were the same person??? So if my first post was confusing… that’s why haha.
Good luck deciding!!
@foreverago have you made a decision yet? I am still undecided, wondering if you are swaying any direction and why.
@CooperMathWorks did you accept the UTSA CAP ? cause i heard its already full , but if not i can give you some insight on CAP since I’m currently a CAP student
@MyLonghorn yes I got into CAP and SA filled up so I actually chose Arlington… Figured it is one year and the end result will be worth it. Please give me some insight, I would love to hear it. FYI I am looking to get into the Natural Science College.
@CooperMathWorks Guess I’ll be seeing you this fall! I was an international applicant and got CAP’ed as well. After debating whether or not I should do CAP or Baylor, I decided to take CAP at UTA since it better fits my financial situation and I have already had my heart set on going to UT Austin. Good luck to you!
