I thought about it.. and i don't remember selecting a major when I was applying to Yale. I know i did the academic interests section on the common app but is that selecting our major? If so, I put down biomedical as #1 and chemistry as #2 but I am interested in majoring in chemistry (even back then I was, but i overlooked going back to this first section and changing it). I am a bit confused.

We didn’t… We declared (as you say…) our interests.

You don’t declare your major until you’re a student there. “Academic interests” are enough for admissions purposes

From the supplement:

What major are you most likely to choose at Yale? Please enter the code number and the name of the major on the following line.
If

*Most likely

That is just so that they can balance their class. Officially we all enter undeclared and there is nothing stopping me (having listed sciencey things everywhere) becoming an art history major.

Exactly… I’ve already warned my rents that Chemical Engineering might change to principles of medieval alchemy with a side order of comparative literature. :D

wow thanks for that- i just saw that line in the supplement and I see now that I DID put down Chemistry in that space haha I really didn’t see it before… thanks for all the replies

They probably also got it from the “Future Plans” section of the Common App.

Haha, I remember going into my interview and the guy goes: “I see you’re from ________ High School, with a major in Political Science. I didn’t know people had majors in high school, but I guess times have changed.”

Hahaha.
