UHall will be freshman dorm

I just found out my friend is on the Inter-Residence Hall Council - it's the student government for residents on campus, and I asked him about UHall and he said it will definately be a freshman dorm this year, i know you people have been arguing about that so i figured id tell you guys the 411.

The list of freshmen dorms is in the information that came with the acceptance letter. Did anybody else actually read those booklets? It's near the back of the pamphlet on the right of the folder.

So which is "better"? Pros and cons? Location? Proximity to classes? Size of rooms? Cafeterias? Other amenities? Recommendations?

SoCal Dad, I posted this in the other thread:

Uhall is the best dorm you can get as a freshman. It's supposed to be an upperclassman dorm, but this year they had to make it 2/3 freshmen (first 10 floors)becuase of the overflow of students. It was built in 1998, has a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms for two people each etc. It's very new/modern looking, which some people don't like because it does not have the "homey" feel to it that Hayden has, somewhat. Freshmen prefer Uhall as being the best though, my friend from Hayden said, "Well this definitely kicks Hayden's ass" hehe. It has a really pretty atrium-style dining hall, and the only bad thing about it is that it's a 10/15 minute walk to WSP, which can be annoying on really cold days. That also has an upside to it too because you wouldn't really be in the "NYU Bubble" that is Washington Square Park - you feel more integrated in the city. Also, like I said before you don't need to get a meal plan, which is awesome - it's cheaper not having a meal plan also you get to have some variety of food that is NYC! Some people perceive UHall as being less social as some of the other dorms, since our rooms are so nice, we actually stay in them . I haven't had any trouble making friends though, also NYU has this whole First Year program in the dorms where your RA gets lots of money to spend on the floor, so you can do trips as a floor different places in the city etc. - so that's another way to meet people.

JwBlue said that it is good to be in that NYU bubble frosh year, but I disagree - if I didn't live in Union Square then I probably would barely venture off towards Union Square, which has much to offer in its own right. Including the park, you have countless stores (Circuit City, 24hr Walgreens next door, pizza open until 5AM next door, B&N, 24hr supermarket across the street (Whole Foods is soon moving in soon!) DSW, Filene's Basement, Forever 21 etc.). Also you have a great music venue, Irving Plaza, across the street. 10 minute walk though and you can take advantage of WSP too.

Uhall is also more expesnive... I definately think ites best to stay in bubble and make friends, Hayden is way more social then UHall. I discusses thoroughly this stuff with upperclassmen and most pointed me towards Hayden, and all of us should do hayden to make the partying easier lol

well, I'm happy. I really love UHall. Now, I've got to get in first.

hey i just got in ED to tisch at NYU and am looking at housing. I like Uhall but its really far away and i kind of like that washington square park closeness so i'm looking at hayden and weinstein but a fitness center is kind of important to me so weinstein is the one right now. I've heard some mixed feelings about it can anyone help me??? I just wont have the willpower to go out into the cold to exercise, so its pretty important. thanks so much, arianna
