umm okay so i'm calm as can be, flipping through a taft viewbok (not planning on a pplying) and i see a girl jumping a horse... and then i freak out. DOES TAFT OFFER HORSEBACK RIDING? the list of sports doesnt include it... but i don;t know.. maybe as a club?? i'm daft about taft now... if they offer horseback riding, i'm soooo goin.

its probably like club or something. i dont think they'd keep horses.
but then again, i know nothing about horseback riding or whatever. i asked each school and taft said the app has to be there by the 15th

If you want horseback riding, apply to Thatcher the so-called "cowboy" school haha :) lol
I was like "em...wth is horse doing in prep school" when I first saw it in Thatcher though. But I didn't know Taft offered it too.

u can do it in many schools...many kids here at hotchkiss do special project in lieu of athletics that you have never even heard of

Foxcroft is so big on horses. So is Madeira.

Here's a piece of advice. If you're wanting to add a few more schools because of the equestrian thing, DO NOT apply to Bethany Hills. I talked to someone on another boarding school forum and they hated it because of the declining boarding population and the staff/faculty. She said her roommate kept her up all night or something and it took months for her to get a new roommate.

On the other hand, Brentwood and Trinity are EXCELLENT schools, but they're in Canada so I don't know if you're into that. I just know that they're considered some of the best prep schools in Canada, along with Bishop Strachan (all girls), Havergal (all girls), UCC (all boys), and Ashbury College.

What is the other boarding school board? Thanks.

www.boardingschoolforums.org

I don't really go on it anymore. There's not many people and there's tons of spam.

Thanks. I agree. This one is much better.

Yeah, definitely.

Jonathan, don't forget Upper Canada College--all boys'.

I didn't forget. UCC = Upper Canada College. It's known as being the best school in Canada.

However, it's had a lot of scandals in its history, but it's still a great school.

blairt, i visited taft and i believe taht they DO have horsebackriding- but i kinda felt that the campus was a bit waspy, w/e tho, there should be plenty of good schools otu there w/ riding!

Right, sorry. Didn't read your post carefully enough. :o I really like their website. A friend of my mum's father went there. I think she went to Bishop Strachan, or maybe Havergal. One of the two.

Those are the best girls school in Canada. I believe someone in one of the college forums goes to Bishop Strachan.

I'd LOVE to go to UCC, but it's all-boys, but more importantly only 6% of the student body is on financial aid. My grandmother would probably offer to pay for most of the tuition because it's only a few hours away from Ottawa, which is where she lives. Even if she did offer to pay $40,000 per year to go there, I wouldn't want to be surrounded by such a non-diverse student body. I get enough of that at my current school. Plus, like I said before, it's all boys, which I don't want.

If I could go (if I were a boy and wealthy :D), I would. It looks great. However, you're right, it's probably not terribly financially diverse.

Let me tell you this:
UCC is full of rich, cocky kids from all my experiences with them. Sports is life for these people, and it's impressive these amazing varsity players still achieve amazing averages, probably because the whole school is IB. And plus, its really diverse. Although it is not as diverse as a public school, they have Asians, Africans, Latinos, etc. there too. But still a majority of them are whites.

Oh yeah, by the way Jonathan, I don't think you would mind UCC to be an all boys school because Havergal, Bishops Strachan and St. Clements (all girls schools) are right beside you. ;)

Well, when I meant I didn't want to be surrounded by such a non-diverse student body, I meant financially. It's not like I'm poor or anything, but I just don't want to be surrounded by wealthy people 24/7, you know?

I'm applying to a local prep school and there's certainly a lot of people who are well off, but they're not showy and cocky about it, like you say they are at UCC.

I read the Urban Dictionary definition about UCC. It pretty much says the same thing you said about it. :)

thanks so much... i love horseback riding. it's my "thing". i've been riding since i was 4.

what i find with horsebakc riding is that the schools that offer it aren't as academically challenging.. thats why i got excited when i thought taft offered it.

thacher only has 1 space for a junior next year and it's only the next town over (i would prefer the east coast) ans they don't hava very broad schedule... plus they focus on western riding.. which i do, but i would like the choice of western and english

kent isn't too challenging.. and the horseback riding program is very expensive

portsmouth abbey isn't too acamdeically challenging but it's right by my family in newport.. and they also offer sailing!! .. idk, it's not challenging..

miss porters is all girls... eh.

do you guys know of any challenging schools that offer it as a club/sport?
