Strange, because those calls started much earlier last year.

Yeah, but their was a decent increase in the size of the applicant pool this year. Or maybe I just don’t know anyone who the admissions officers believed should be distinguished as an Echols scholar. :(

I really wanna be an Echols Scholar. It’s my dream.

Oh, Dean J.! That blog you linked to says, “Hang in there! We are still pouring [sic] over your applications…” Won’t that make them virtually impossible to read?

I expected better from U.Va.

Sincerely,
Sikorsky (M.A. '88)

Hold onto that dream…I really don’t think the calls have started yet.

Sikorsky…kind of a cheap shot don’t you think? It’s a blog, not a thesis.

Robert, I don’t think so. I don’t think all blogs are alike. I think that if it purports to represent the University, it shouldn’t contain usage errors.

YMMV.

Not sure what YMMV stands for, but I’m sure it’s perfect usage…

And to Dean J, thanks for all you do!!!

Those who expect perfection out of a person or an institution are apt to be disappointed at some point.

For what it’s worth, the “u” has been deleted.

This reminds me of an old post…

Have a good night, everyone!

oooh i love that blog. it’s absolutely fantastic

by blog i meant post. i love that specific post

Holistic approach FTW

Dean J, at the outset, I really meant to be kind of ribbing you gently about the pore/pour confusion. From your reply and Robert’s, I can see it didn’t come across that way, and I apologize.

Sikorsky, I remember seeing someone else point out a typo Dean J made.

While I understand that you were joking, even in jest I don’t think anyone should feel they have the prerogative to scrutinize everything she writes in attempt to find errors. She posts on this forum for OUR benefit so I don’t think she needs additional impetus to leave.

/my two cents

I received this e-mail as well, but thought that they sent it all minority applicants so I didn’t think it was something to be viewed as special, but since they don’t send it to all minority applicants, hopefully this does mean something good since UVa is totally one of my top choices! I faithfully wait for the new “week in photos” slideshow every friday LOL :D

“pouring over” looked fine to me, but I wasn’t an English major.

I think the admission staff should immediately halt all processing of applications so they can first make sure that a single email does not include a usage error.

This thread is a year old.

Hahahahaa.
