UIC-GPPA.

nice stats quadro. I was wondering if u did any ec’s involving medicine, like shadowing a doctor or volunteering at a hospital or whatnot. The reason why i’m asking is because i haven’t done any of those, even though i’ve wanted to be a doctor ever since i was a kid.

if u didnt, what did u write on ur personal statement that showed u were serious about med despite not having any direct med experience?

Hi, I am a senior in a high school in Illinois. I am very interested in applying for the UIC GPPA program. I really want to become a doctor and it has been my dream. I don’t want to do it for the prestige or for the money, it was because I want to help people. I hope that whoever got accepted last year or is going through the same process, is able to help me. Thanks guys.

What is the differences between honors and GPPA? Can anyone explain it please?

GPPA is the direct programs that they offer which include admission into their undergraduate school and graduate school simultaneously as a freshman. Some of their direct programs include engineering, medicine, and pharmacy.

Hi M17, Can you pl let me know about UIC-GPPA- Medical application process ( One for Undergrad and seperate application for GPPA-Is that right?)and how to prep for Interview?
Thanks.

I spoke to a UIC GPPA medicine admissions counselor and they indicated that the average ACT score accepted is a 33-34.

Hey guys  I just stumbled upon this forum and I would looooooooooove to hear from the current GPPA dental students. The GPPA program is my #1 choice and I’m absolutely terrified of not getting in. Here’s a bunch of info about me; much of it may seem unnecessary but I wasn’t sure what would help me look well-rounded and which are just redundant.

My rank is not amazing; 70/700 (ish :/) and my gpa is about 3.7/4.0. I transferred high schools freshman year so my schedule got messed up and I had to take only regular classes. However, sophohmore year I had one AP class and honors classes and junior year was all honors. This year, as a senior, I’m taking all AP classes (bio, calc, german, english lit) and I’m doing well in all of them except for calc… which is close to a C D: . I’m tutor younger students in the literacy center (basically all subjects) and in the FLRC (foreign language resource center-- german). The only subject I’ve ever struggled in (b’s usually, and my only C ever) is math. My cumulative ACT was a 32 (math was 27 :(, english 33, reading 35 and science 34). I have held a part time job throughout junior and senior year. I raise money for Dance Marathon and Relay for life and I participate in W.H.O club, which is also involved in volunteer work for the community. I did JV Softball sophomore year, along with cross country. Junior year I did powerpuff football. I’m a member of the National Honor Society and the German Honor Society. I am an Illinois 09 Scholar, I ranked in the top 97% of the AATG exam (a national german exam) and I was a finalist in the Chicago history fair competition. And I observe my dentist on weekends and am currently in the process of getting a job at a dental office. I am completely fluent in 4 languages. I live in the chicago-land area (if that even matters).

I would REALLLY REALLY love for a current GPPA student to read that (I’ll love you forever if you do!) and let me know what my chances are. After reading everyone else’s stats, I feel completely inadequate :(

BUMP for 2010 applicants!
Who else applied this year?

so i applied for GPPA pre-dent this year.
umm i really nervous because i dont have a great stats
um also, i have to schedule an interview and write a impromptu essay but
im not good with speaking formally … with people and yeah
but if someone knows what the impromptu essays are going to be about please post them
so it can help many students who still have to write one for honors college.
: )

can you still apply to honors college or is it too late?

i just got called back for my second interview
D:
SO NERVOUSS
its tuesday!
any tips?!

You got the second interview, so your odds for getting a spot are very good. So relax and be yourself. As long as you do not do something really stupid, you are in. You do not have to blow them away. Just tell them why you want to be doctor.

lol I’m going for dentistry, and because only 4-5 will be admitted, I’m still definitely terrified, but thanks for trying to calm me down! Are you already in GPPA?

It’s not surprising to see that there’s so little activity here… in any case, good luck!

Hi everyone,

I applied to the Medicine GPPA program. I already did my Honors College interview and the impromptu essay, but I have not received an invite to a GPPA Medicine interview yet, and the decisions will be given by 1st of April. Since I wasn’t invited to a GPPA interview, does that mean that I am automatically not accepted, or that they are not interested enough to schedule an interview? It says on their web page that the GPPA will contact me to schedule an interview “if they wish”, and that I should just wait for that. But the decisions will be given out in just two weeks.

Does anyone know what probably happens if I dont get invited to a GPPA interview? Do they accept people at GPPA without having GPPA interviews?

I appreciate any help given.

Unfortunately if you do not get a second interview before they stop interviewing, that means that you are rejected from GPPA Medicine. I am not sure when they stop interviewing. If they are done interviewing and you have not been contacted for the second interview that means you are rejected from GPPA Medicine.

You may still be accepted into the honors college and get honors college scholarships.

artizzler- hey i applied for gppa dentistry… when was your first interview for honors?

I had my first Honors interview and impromptu essay a week ago. How long does it for a decision to be made, first for the honors college and second, if I will be asked for a GPPA specific interview?

How will the school communicate that?

Thank you

I was admitted to the Honor College. What does that mean for GPPA/Honors? Am I in GPPA or just the Honors college for now?

Thank you
