MrGPPA,
I have a feeling that you are the “GPPA staff” that you claim reads this forum. :D

About the GPPA experience:

I’ve had contact with a few GPPA students and it really is an amazing oppotunity. I would assume that a student who is going to go onto med school is a go getter of some sort and even with a guaranteed place in med school would still push themselves towards excellent experiences. It’s always what you make it.

Students always think that it’s always just up to the school or program to make them good doctors or whatever they are studying…it comes down to the student.

This past weekend I was reading the GPPA alumni page - you should take a look at it! - I was impressed! As a parent, my gauge has always been, if a student has the potential to move forward to higher levels, does the school provide the means? Reading that alumni page is proof that UIC does well for its students. Their mentoring appears to be very strong.

Those alumni are only a small sample who agreed to tell their stories. There are many more great stories. Some even went to Harvard Medical School after applying out of GPPA.

From what I’ve read most other combined programs do not want their candidates to apply elsewhere for med school after the 4 years of undergrad but UIC seems to be ok with it. I get the impression that they do not discourage applying out - anyone have an idea as to the thoughts behind that?

UIC GPPA not only allows you to apply out, but actually encourages it.

MrGPPA,

What is the selection criteria for the GPPA med interview?

I can only quote from official statement from the GPPA Medicine FAQ site:

“There a number of different criteria including a full understanding of each applicant’s academic record, extracurricular activities and service, and motivation for their career in medicine. We look for each student to let us know who they are and understand what they will bring to our program.”

MrGPPA, does UIC GPPA program allow for superscoring between 2 ACT scores? Can they report the superscore when they self report the ACT Score? We have a 34 composite in both scores, but if we can superscore, it would be 35. Please advise.

The application only has room to report one score. Follow the instructions that come with the application. If you need clarification of the instructions call the office of admissions.

Just got an interview! And I’d given up hope…

Congrats agnijay! We were there this week and they said that they are still contacting people so don’t lose hope you guys!

Congratulations agnijay…Good luck…

Cheers…

Congrats agnijay and good luck . Hope I get one too.

Congratulations to everyone who already got an interview. I hope my son will get an interview too.

I applied for the GPPA/Honors college and got an interview on Feb 18th, I havent received any reply on GPPA 2nd interview or decision from the Honors college? Does this mean I am indirectly rejected?

You still have about a week to find out.

OK, so this is a REALLY DUMB question, but if you apply for housing and don’t go to UIC, you get the $100 back, right?

I think you do not get $50 application fee back, but you will get the $100 deposit back if you ask soon enough. You may want to call housing to be sure.

So admission notifications go out on April 2nd righT?

Yup. Incidentally, has anyone heard or know when we hear about scholarships?
