UIC vs Loyola Chicago for computer science...

Hi there.

I recently found out that I was accepted at both Loyola and UIC. I'm trying to decide on one of these schools. I have heard that UIC has a better computer science program in general, but I would still like some reassurance. So, I'd appreciate some opinions on which one to select. :)

Also, I've been thinking... I want to go to either Caltech or MIT for graduate school. I understand it won't be very easy, but say I have undergraduate research and internships behind my belt accompanied with great grades, would it be possible to enter those two schools?

And, one more thing, say I do go to UIC because of the computer science ranking, would UIC being a public university have a negative impact on my chances of going to those two schools for graduate education?

Thank you for your time,

UIUC is a better computer science school, its where they created the world's first web browser.

As far as grad school goes, getting into them is the same if not harder then undergraduate admission (with the exception of physics so I've been told). The university doesn't matter as much as the recommendations and research accomplished at the university.

Think he meant either UIC (Chicago) or Loyola. I think.

Actually, I'm looking to transfer to UIC soon and I also want to major in CS. SteveB, from what I hear computer science and the college of engineering is great at UIC, but I'm not sure how it compares to Loyola.

I don't know what anyone else will have to say, but I think getting into those graduate schools from UIC or Loyola is definetly possible.

Thanks for the replies.

..Yeah, I did mean University of Illinois at Chicago, but it's okay. I just checked UIC's computer science ranking and it's 49 from the source I used, which is excellent. Loyola isn't even on the list.

Thanks again,

Hey i have the EXACT same problem! i got into loyola and UIC… from lists, loyola isnt listed as a top CS school. but UIC is…and loyola is more of a liberal arts college i think.i’ve got a CS scholarship from the department and i talked to the professors there and i felt very comfortable and felt i would be happy here. as a student at UIC(if u still are) can u tell me how the CS program is there??
