Not necessarily. Some prefer the standouts from the top state schools to the run-of-the-mill Ivy Leaguers. The standout state schoolers are sometimes perceived to be more ‘hungry’ and to feel less entitled, so to speak. A standout student from an Ivy would have an advantage, though.

Got into their business school. My ACT was 31 and unweighted GPA was 3.45. That’s really all that was important. Maybe it helped that I was a page editor on the newspaper but that’s about as interesting as I got.
My essays were kind of weak, imo.
Anyway, NYU is my first choice but if I don’t get in, you’ll see me here.
Congrats to all who got in and good luck with your other schools to those who didn’t.

I also received the Provost Scholarship, and I wasn’t sure if you knew if the scholarships are stackable at UIUC. It was so exciting to receive a great scholarship from Illinois to begin with though (:

My D was awarded the Provost plus Presidential & Campus Scholars totalling approx $7-9k, depending on whether she is determined to have any financial need. I must say that we were pleasantly surprised that she was selected for the Provost full tuition scholarship since so few are awarded. It has definitely brought Illinois back in the running.
