Well maybe all of the students who applied from your school got in becasue your school prepares students well. You did say that you were a student "at one of the country's best schools..."

Also, most schools would like to increase their diversity so international students are very attractive...

Don't be discontented, though. I'm sure you were well qualified.

UIUC usually don't reject a lot of people. However, programs like engineering, business, or architecture tend to be significantly harder to get accepted, hence people who got rejected from these departments end up in DGS. Also, I think UIUC is really lenient towards international because it makes them good money, believe it or not. Nevertheless, you shouldn't feel bad at all. According to Collegeboard, UIUC student's SAT average is quite high compared to other elite state schools (Michigan is the only public school in the midwest that has higher SAT average than Illinois)

UIUC is one of the only schools i know of whose international students tution is different from that of its regular tution. Infact its international tution is very high for a public college (31k) , Don't you think its obvious why they would want international students then..............

Hey, I am feeling exactly the same. I am a student of my state's best school and 4/4 students got in!!! I had the highest SAT score from them and it felt so good but now it seems like nothing great.

i'm an intenational student too...got accepted to engineering at UIUC, wasn't expected but not complaining!...but if the reason is the money from intl students then am really worried....getting a scholarship is the only way i can proceed...any ideas as to who all get the merit based schols?

hey sherlock, I'm international student, engineering too. I'm also very worried I might have to attend some other university because of no scholarship...

initially i was pretty happy for getting in...now i'm in a total state of panic....missing out because of the money issue will be absolute disaster

Let me get this straight - you want one of the seats in the incoming freshman class at UIUC, but you want it at a discounted price?

As an American taxpayer I resent this - our educational system (at least the state schools) are primarily funded through taxes. Even though you don't pay US taxes, you want me to not only give you a seat that could go to a deserving American taxpayer but you also want me to give you some of my taxes money as a scholarship??? If you want the seat (I'm against that, but lucky for you I'm not in admissions) then I say shut up and pay what its worth and that means full rate.

Adding to this... my school this year.. which is an international school from Southeast Asia.... 10 out of 12 students applied got in (engineering 7/8, Business 1/1, LAS 2/3). Everyone with 1750 and above got in. I think this is pretty crazy for school with such high ranking in engineering and business. By doing this, they make the pride of entering this university become less. The university should position themself in term of selectivity atleast equal to Michigan.

The only Major that I have seen so far that is tough to get in this year is CS major where an IOI (informatic olympiad) silver medalist and highest ranked girl in this competition from my country got rejected, along with 3 more top computer students. If they applied last year, atleast half would get in. I am pretty sure that this girl who got a silver medalist would get atleast into Cornell or even MIT, considering the fact that she is the highest ranked girl in the IOI competition (which mean top CS girl in the world).

I am pretty surprised about the difficulty of CS major this year comparing to other major at Illinois this year for international student.
