UIUC a tad too crazy about Intls ?

Students from foreign countries often apply to school in the U.S. simply for better opportunities, and a chance to start a life in the U.S. They are NOT necessarily wealthy; when international students apply to schools such as Illinois -Engineering, or Stanford, or other top schools, they are indeed intelligent, but not necessarily wealthy; which is why they look for scholarships and other merit based awards to get a chance to come here. Often times, they settle for lesser reputed schools, but for scholarships.

You have to understand, the IITs receive a ridiculous number of applicants compared to the schools here; if a country has 1 billion people, what do you expect? There can’t be a holistic review of your application with THAT many applicants.

I Wish the best of luck to everyone

haha I’m not gonna lie, I also go to one of the best international schools in my country, China, and the majority of people who applied here got in too.

Me being me can’t keep my words to myself so here goes.

A few things to remember:

 1. More students are given acceptance at UIUC than are actually expected to attend. In many of the large suburban high schools in IL, it’s not unusual for 20, 30, 40 or more students all from the same high school to be accepted to UIUC; however, UIUC admissions isn’t really expecting EVERYONE who gets in to come to this university. So it may seem odd that 8/8 students from your school were accepted, but are all of them going to attend here in the fall?
 2. As mentioned earlier, many American universities take a holistic approach to the application process. You may have the phenomenal grades and test scores, but your activities, community involvement, and essays are all considered, too. They’re what gives meaning to the name of the applicant. Perfect scores have, and will continue to be, rejected if there’s something else in the application not to Admission’s liking.
 3. No, not all Americans are like that. Really, we’re quite nice, but sometimes get a bit hot-headed. But that’s not just Americans. It’s a human thing. And I hope everyone on this board and at UIUC is, indeed, human…

Smile! There’s no more snow in the forecast as of right now, and it’s even gonna be warmin’ up a bit the next few days! If you’ve spent this winter in Urbana-Champaign, you know why I’m celebrating.

P.S.–I believe I once heard that Einstein failed algebra, at first…and there’s more than one millionaire who’s never finished college.
