HI all :
I need some help regarding my Daughter's appllication to UIUC (Illinois Urbana-Champaign)

(1) While her ACT (32) and SAT1 (1400 + 670 writing) are good, and she's an AP scholar with
distinction (4 4', one 5's and one 3), she managed to get 2 C's in her Junior year
in otherwise mostly B's ( a couple of A's) and thus a class ranking of barely missing
top 15%. (I don't know why her school do not properly correct for her taking so many
AP courses--she might properly have ranked in the top 5-10% if she took the easier courses).
Her HS is ranked around 12 in the state of Illinois.

(2) She applied to UIUC business school --thinking that her good ACT/SAT (at or above the
top of the 50% median) would compensate for the ranking (slightly below 50% median)--
however, she was REJECTED due ot the 2 C's and mediocre essay (she refused to let us
help her improve her essay--just like a teenager)

(3) (Is this true ???) Apparantly, UIUC admission said that she is only allow to apply to one
of their school during the Sept-Dec 2005 period, and will not be allow to apply to
the easier LAS school till Jan 2, 2006--and will be considered only if there are space
available.

(4) Does anyone have any statistics on how many application/acceptances occur during the
Sept-Dec 2005 period and the Jan-March 2006 period ?? Does her late (??) application
to UIUC LAS make it much less likely that she would be accepted ?? (I would have
thought that her chances at LAS would be 95+%) and when would
she likely to hear from UIUC/LAS regarding acceptance or rejection in that case.

I.E. a previous posting said that UIUC/LAS acceptance is 8000/11,700 applications (68%)
---how many of the 8000 acceptances would have been sent out by Jan 2, 2006
Is the acceptance standards for UIUC/LAS going to be significantly higher for the applicantion
after Jan2, 2006 ??

(5) Comment : The whole concept appears to be rather brutal --
--I can understand why UIUC would not want everyone to apply to several UIUC colleges at
one time
--however, for the more demanding Business and engineering school, the prospective good
(though not perfect) students are faced with either taking a chance in applying to
the tougher colleges and risk rejection--and maybe being denied the easier LAS later--
or taking a almost sure thing by applying to LAS first
--it would seem that there should be a way for elite college rejects (Business, engineering)
to be consider by the much larger LAS within the Fall period (I was told that
LAS freshman enrollment is 4000/7200 for the entire UIUC)

Thanks in advance for any useful comments or communications. John
