<p>Most engineering courses at UIUC are based on a curve. Top 10% is A, the next 15% is B, etc.</p>
<p>At ECE in UIUC, you can pretty much expect an A in the course if you perform 1 std. deviation above the mean grade.</p>

<p>Actually, in my experience in the ME department, most classes are graded straight up it seems with a set 10 point scale for grades, then if there seem to be too few A’s, they will extend the ranges a bit to get the averages right, but you rarely (read never) see someone with a 92% in a class get a B, even if he is not in the top 10% of the grades in the class.</p>
