UIUC Chances

Hey guys

I was wondering if i could receive some accurate and honest opinions as to whether or not i am more or less likely to gain admission to UIUC.

I am applying to the college of education due to my lower stats.

I attend an extremely rigorous high school, best public high school in the state.

I will have taken 7 APs by the end of high school, with mostly accelerated and honors classes.

I have a 3.3 weighted GPA, trending upwards from a 2.9 freshmen year to a 3.5 sophomore year to a 3.6 junior year

ACT Composite: 26, E(30), M(28), R(20), S(26), superscore: 27, E(30), M(28), R(23), S(26).

EC: Several activities and varsity track

I have had prestigious work experience

I am applying during the priority filling.

Please honestly predict my chances for admission into UIUC college of education. If am less likely, please tell me. Any extra advice would also be appreciated, thank guys!

For a visual, look at the UIUC GPA and Test score graph at the website collegeapps.about.com uiuc

Thanks, but i was wondering what my chances are for the college of education specifically. Do you think i’m short, borderline, good shot, or sure in?

The freshman profile by college is here:

<a href=“Page Not Found, Illinois Undergraduate Admissions”>http://admissions.illinois.edu/apply/requirements_freshman.html</a></p>

Scroll down to the bottom. Not sure what you mean by priority, since they eliminated that this year for applications in general. The only have a priority period for Honors College consideration. You say you’re applying to the College of Education due to your lower stats. Are you interested in actually becoming a teacher, or another type of academic professional, or are you just applying to Education because you think you’ll have your best shot at getting accepted there? If its the latter reason, you’d be better off applying to DGS as an undecided applicant. If you have decided, apply to that specific college even if you think your stats won’t get you an offer. You’ll automatically be considered for DGS if you don’t make it.

http://www.dgs.illinois.edu/</a></p>

Isn’t it such that applying to a less competitive program withing Illinois, like edu or aces, is easier to get into due their lower required states than dgs. If not, how likely am i to get into the school in general?

You don’t apply to a program because it’s supposedly easier to get into. You apply to the program you want. They look at a lot of applications. They’re very good at sniffing out true desire as opposed to feigned interest. You’d be doing yourself a disservice, if you did that. DGS exists to move students to the program that they are best qualified for. You can apply to DGS directly, or will be evaluated for DGS should you not get into the program that is your first or second choice. You’re stats make U of I a reach in general.

That makes sense, thanks for ur input

Any other predictions?

Tough call, your GPA is a bit too low as is your ACT. UIUC stopped Early Admissions, everyone will find out in Feb. 2015. I was worried my daughter would not get in, she did not take any AP classes at York High School, she has a non weighted GPA or 3.5 and a 30 on ACT. She got in. Most all the kids she met had 4.0 and over 30 on ACTs. She did meet a person who got a 24 on their ACT in the Education Department. Just apply, but have back ups. UIUC average ACT score was 29 for last year admissions. My daughter was rejected from all her reach schools and even my college of UW Madison…so much for legacy. You have a great shot in the Education Department but transferring out is tough but not impossible. My daughter applied to LAS and got in but I was worried and she is interested in agriculture biology and that department you can get in with lesser stats and I was going to encourage her to choose that field, but it worked out. Our back up was Ohio State and University of Minnesota, both she got in but zero aid. Good luck!!

Yes, my daughter chose anthropology knowing UIUC is not known for that major but it is in LAS so she can easily change. Funny think is she is a world traveler and loves culture and now she may just keep the major if she does not move into agriculture(ACES). She loves her Anthropology professor and goes to coffee with her and other students. Told her she will need a PhD is she plans on getting a job. But you may get into the Education department and love it. Do what you need to do, because your passion and desire will assist in your succeeding. It is a bit of a reach for you with all the competition but my daughter got in with only one honors class and all regular classes so not impossible. A lot of people on forums said may not get in since she had basically no clubs, sports, nada, Just regular high school and a decent ACT.

Thanks for the response. Could you explain how difficult it would be for me to transfer from the college of education to either DGS or LAS. What are the requirements and roughly how long would it take? Thanks

Not difficult at all, and after you talk with your adviser, a day. Business and Engineering difficult not so much the other way around.
