I also applied to GT and got rejected, but I am hopeful for UIUC!
Yes, let’s stay positive! It’s a new game after all and each school may be looking for something different!
If I got into U mich for CS in LSA, are my chances good for getting into CS here?
@sunbeams There were a lot of surprise dererrals/rejections from GT based on the boards. I guess I figured my S would be deferred rather than rejected, but I’d rather save all our good mojo for UIUC if I get to choose! Next school up to bat for us is Maryland…we are all assuming Michigan deferral will convert to rejection at some point.
@s16s18s21s25 when’s Maryland? S was considering applying there too but decided not to at last minute. He said something about Maryland’s online app not as user friendly. By that time, we were done paying for all those app fees anyway.
Yes, we are afraid his UMich deferral will turn into rejection at some point. With 3 deferrals in a row (UChicago, UMich, GT), our confident have gone down the sink. So far he only has his 2 safeties in the pocket.
GT is still top of his choice due to in state tuition and friends but S always wanted to stay up north so he will be thrilled to attend UIUC.
@sunbeams by feb 1, which has usually been around 1/25. We have Auburn as a safety, Penn State, and Purdue in hand, deferral from Mich, general admission to OSU, and are waiting on Md, UIUC, Texas (I always forget about that one because he’s so not getting in) and Minnesota, where he applied on August 24 but has yet to receive a decision. Yeah, after a while application fatigue sets in…
Over 11,000 applicants to the College of Engineering last year (and more this year from what I’m told). 1,622 new enrolled students. Yield is ballpark 40%.
So the reason is that the acceptance rate you quote is much too high. The actual acceptance rate to ENG is ballpark 35-40%.
The numbers vary by major and from year to year. There is also a large degree of self-selection as noted above. Illinois applicants in particular have a very good idea, through their GCs, what they need to have a chance, and since Illinois is not on the common app they get very few hopeful apps.
OOS (CO) Applying for Engineering CS as first choice and aerospace second choice. I fell in love when I visited, plus I am legacy (my parents were also engineering) so fingers crossed. Probably my first choice if admitted to CS. Applied on Sept. 1 (Was too excited for that lol)
Applying to LAS communications. 31 ACT (with a 36 in English). 3.4 UW and 4.5 weighted. All classes are AP. In state. Chances?
Okay, guys, I really really want to get into UIUC. The problem is, i submitted my application 5 hours late.
Do you think I have any chance?
1st choice major - Statistics and Computer Science
SAT (M+CR) - 1520/1600
Grades - 10/10 GPA (CBSE)
ECs - nothing great
Based on the admissions blog where someone asked the same question, they’ll accept the application as timely, I think.
Today I got a huge mail from purdue…
But the bigger words were deferred!! They said they want more information.
And I made a mistake to tell them that I am retaking SAT in december. And now they want those scores.
However, no time for preparation made me score EXACT same as the previous test!!..!!..!!
What should I do…??
thank you
^post on the Purdue board.
There are close to 13,000 applicants for the college of engineering this year. Do you think the high number of applicants this year hurts my chances of getting in?
Applied Mechanical Engineering on October 7th.
UW GPA: 3.67
W GPA : 4.05
ACT: 31 (35 on math)
In-state. Taking Calculus 3 through UIUC senior year of high school.
Seems like you’re on the lower end of the range so you’re in the conversation but I wouldn’t go buy Illini gear yet.
It’s too close to call even for in-state.
Applying to LAS communications. 31 ACT (with a 36 in English). 3.4 UW and 4.5 weighted. All classes are AP. In state. Anybody have any thoughts on my chances. Getting jittery.
Seeing how UIUC is pretty selective even for those with high scores applying to their CoE, I think I’m out of the race. Have Michigan and Purdue so far; got deferred at GaTech where I had no hopes in the first place. Was looking forward to Urbana but seeing their international admission stats blows out any flicker of hope of getting admitted here.
SAT1 is at 1430/1600 (CR+M)
SAT 2 is at 760 for Math, Phy and Chem each
UW GPA at 4
Majors selected: Aero and Mech
What stats are you referring to ?
Could you post them here ?
Plshelpme123: Check out some of these stats for internationals.

Can anyone link the exact engineering acceptance rate to me? (last years)
