UIUC Class OF 2022 Admissions Thread

Deferred
Computer Science (COE)
OOS, female
1520 SAT
3.38 GPA (upward trend)
Did internships, built CS stuff/apps

Does anyone know what deferred means exactly? I know it means we just get pushed off to RD but does it mean we’re somewhat competitive for admission? What are our chances for the next cycle if we got deferred?

We’ll be the class to Bring Back the Chief!!!

@pleasgod: the UIUC CS admission process is holistic. So, probably the ECs related to CS stuffs/apps allowed you to be deferred. Now your application will be reviewed along with all RD applications. However, it will be very competitive as CS COE particularly at UIUC has a very low (5-7%) acceptance rate.

Please take a look at another thread on low acceptance for CS department at link below: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-illinois-urbana-champaign/2040749-whats-the-acceptance-rate-for-stats-cs-at-uiuc.html#latest

@RSK2000 I’m an international applicant from Canada! What were your extracurriculars?

Does anybody know if UIUC offer any scholarship at all ? if so how do we get qualified ?

Do you when does the physical mail of accepted letter of UIUC would come out? (I’m at NJ in case thats considered)

@Diaming787 I think it’s supposed to be about a week after you get your admissions decision online, but you should also be able to view an online copy of the letter before that. I’d look at the letter of admission section at the very bottom of the U of I admitted checklist.
@biogirlie You’re automatically considered for any merit-based/financial aid based scholarships if you get accepted. Merit-based stuff should come out in a few weeks, and financial aid based stuff supposedly comes out February-March.

Thank you very much… Will pray for some scholarship here. OOS tuition is a bit high for my family

They give merit scholarships but the university is pretty stingy with them. I’m a current student and back when I applied I got 5k. I know they have some department level scholarships too, but those are harder to get.

@biogirlie Just make sure that you have filed for FAFSA, that’s pretty key to getting any financial based aid.
