@TytoAlba agree with you that PREP is not for everyone. Do your due diligence

@catsdogs54, stats + CS and math + CS are both very competitive. They are easier to get into than CS ENG, but not significantly easier. I don’t suggest switching unless your daughter likes stats.

Congrats! What state are you from? My son was also admitted to EE OoS (Michigan) and UIUC is his first choice ( my husband and I graduated from UIUC in the mid 90’s)

@PPofEngrDr Thanks for replying. So the application seems to alllow to change first and second choice majors. You are correct that some majors are mutually exclusive but I was thinking to change her first choice Major to stat + CS or Math + CS. Few of her friends got selected into Math+CS and had very similar sat and gpa. Again not sure of any of this but since she was already deferred in CS so wanted to increase her chances in RD by changing major.

Do you know anything about the deferred percentage for political science?

@catsdogs54, the issue you are raising does not really have an answer. Though it may be somewhat easier to be admitted to the math or stats/CS program, that may not be true anymore. CS Eng is always looking for more than double the number of freshman than the combination of the math and stats CS sections are. The position of your D right now is that she is still being considered for CS Eng. What is an unknown at this point is how far along CS Eng already is in filling its desired number of admissions in comparison to how far along the math and stat CS groups are, e.g., it is possible that CS Eng still has a higher percentage left to admit than the other two. The Eng department as a whole tends to defer a higher percentage of the early action applicants than LAS. Thus, it would only be a guess to assume that right now, after EA decisions have been released, your D’s chances are better if she switches first choice to one of the LAS majors.

CourtyarDeep, My son got into the same program. Are you in state or OOS ? Is this your first choice of school?

@catsdogs54 there are just lots of factors that you and your D have to consider. What is her passion CS or any CS+x? is UIUC or any good school offering CS (like UMich, Carnegie Mellon, GATech, different UCs, Purdue, UIC)? if goal is to just get accepted into UIUC and then work through its procedures (not easy) to get to to desired goal then ofc switch to easiest, DGS PREP and then work hard first year, get 3.9 GPA and get into CS transfer (this is not guaranteed admission just like all students can not achieve those results). If goal is to get to CS and if you have a high hope for good CS schools then ask a question why to do CS+X UIUC? To my understanding CS+X is little lenient to CS in admissions but still very competitive (not a slam dunk by any means). If you feel comfortable, feel free to PM me with more info and I may be able to provide my view point more clearly.

My son was accepted to 2nd choice major (Chemical Engineering) and is wait listed for 1st choice major (Bioengieering).

SAT 1 - 1530, reattempt in Nov got 1590. The updated score was self reported as soon as it was available.
SAT II - Physics 790, Chemistry - 780, Bio 760, Math 760.
AP - Calculus BC (4), Bio (4), AP Physics (4).
US citizen studied in India. School does not convert to GPA, however 3rd party conversion is 3.93 UW.
Very good essay, Good EC.

The link to admission decision states the following for admissions to 2nd choice major.
Assuming he is waitlisted for 1st choice major, what are the chances of getting into Bioengineering?

Also why is Chemical Engineering not a part of COE? Is this not considered engineering discipline at UIUC?

If the program you were admitted to wasn’t your first choice, know that we strongly considered you for it. We didn’t have room for all qualified applicants, however, and so offered you admission to another program instead (in some cases, your second choice). You’re also considered wait listed for your first choice. If space becomes available in your first-choice major later on, we’ll let you know even if you’ve declined your alternate offer.

can someone let me know if UIUC automatically considers for Honors college (Engineering) or was there an option to select Honors college in the coalition app? cannot remember if it was in the application.
