Thanks a lot for ur advise

It won’t hurt as decision is already made, but I would keep my expectations low.

Thanks. Probably it won’t change anything.

Yeah, he has been checking github pages consistently to find admits with similar interests.

My son had contacted Admissions before applying regarding how to make those 1st and 2nd major choices. They AO categorically said that both CS and CE are equally hard to get into and transferring into CS from CE would be quite daunting for anyone who wanted to try that route, simply because of how competitive the program is and how many students they have interested in it.

No, i don’t need financial aid at all. I am in state.

My gpa is 3.5 (w), no test score. i had mentioned in my application that extenuating circumstances led to low gpa.

I am instate and do not need financial aid. I have lots of relevant extracurriculars, leadership, research etc.

First choice major was Community Health, Second was Psychology.

Unsure if I should appeal to DGS or do community health again.

For the appeal, I do have have new and compelling info as they ask for including making nationals for a competition, publishing research, volunteering & internships with very well known organizations, a prestigious award etc.

Please suggest if i should appeal to DGS or Community Health. I really really like the community health major but am thinking that appealing for that again might not be the smartest choice.

Chance me for DGS appeal?

I would suggest schedule a zoom meeting with an admission counselor, explain the situation and go from there. Sometime you have to shoot the shot as you have nothing more to loose at this point, but use that admission counselor lifeline along with school counselor.
I remember few years back, admission counselor in-person meeting made a difference for us to go for UIUC PREP vs Purdue CS.

That’s not as bad as you think. All you need is 1 acceptance. If you got accepted everywhere that means you didn’t apply to enough reach schools and that would be bad!

Also, once you have 1 acceptance from a college, then from that point, any acceptances from colleges that are less desirable on your list would be worthless. You are only interested in colleges that are more desirable on your list. If all of those colleges rejected you then that means the college that accepted you is the right college for you! And it also means you applied to a great set of colleges: one just-right college, plus a bunch of reaches. That’s risky, but it worked out for you.

Thank you for the advice. I know what my reach schools and safety ones are. You dont know what it is like to be on the autism spectrum coupled with ADHD. You dont know how it feels when someone ridicules you because of these disorders. If you want to say I wasnt worthy enough for the schools who rejected me, then all students who get rejected from Ivies and top tier schools inspite of their excellent caliber are also unworthy according to you.
Anyway I wish you the best. Congratulations for your acceptances.

Pardon my ignorance, but what gives you a feel that someone ridicules you because of disorders.

Thank you for your kind words. I will survive no matter what. Thank you for not telling me I wasnt worthy enough for the schools who have rejected me. And worthy only for the ones who accepted me.

eg. a teacher ridicules you because you skip words while reading because of ADHD. A teacher ridicules you because the ADHD medication makes your head hurt and makes you drowsy. I appreciate you asking but I wouldnt like to discuss anything further on my disorders.

I respect your privacy, but I was of the impression that someone here, in this thread, did something of that nature. Ofc, none of us would know your school experience like that.
I would say one thing, so many parents participating here have seen the life and have life experiences even they may not have to deal with your situation directly.
Keep faith and at the end you will find your destiny where you going to shine!

Thank you. I was merely responding to @petilon as he/she feels I am unworthy since schools rejected me.

That is not at all what @petilon said.

No one on here has ridiculed you or said anything about you being worthless. I know that comment of petilon was a little hard to follow as I had to read it a few times but there was nothing at all said that was implied that you worthless and I don’t think he/she meant for you to take that away from that comment either.

Exactly, hence I raised the question how @superboy23 got that impression to begin with, w/o assuming anything.
We are here to support @superboy23 and others with our best ability, not the otherway.

My point was that no one should feel bad about a few rejections. Rejections should not be seen as “unworthiness”. If you look at it that way, almost everyone is “unworthy” since nobody gets accepted everywhere. Being able to handle rejections is important. After graduating from college you will apply to top companies, and guess what, some are going to reject you. Does that mean you are “unworthy”? No, that’s not the way to look at it at all, because none of us are perfectly qualified for every job we apply to. You don’t have to get into every college you apply to nor get every job you apply to, to be “worthy”. Nobody is perfect. We all have our levels, and finding colleges (and later, jobs) that match our level is important, without feeling dejected because we aren’t “worthy” for better colleges or jobs.

If you want to try to change from one engineering major (accepted Civil) to another (biomed or materials) is it possible to attempt now? Or do I need to wait until I’ve already started taking classes? Thought it would be best to start in the track I want to be in, but I don’t even know if it’s still possible to change. Anyone done this? Any advice or tips? Thank you.
