Does anyone know if James Scholars, and specifically Giess Scholars, have already been notified/invited?
Notification of James Scholar will be in your official admissions letter
https://education.illinois.edu/current-students/undergraduate/james-scholars/james-scholar-faq
Do you mean the official letter on the portal?
Per the UIUC guidelines (noted in the earlier link) its supposed to be in your NOA that is on the portal. Gies has an application/interview process for James Scholar and Gies Scholars so I suppose they may follow a different process. My DS did not get a James Scholar notification in his NOA so to be sure it would be good to hear if anyone did get a James Scholar notification.
UIUC sends large orange admissions packets. I believe in the past the honors letters also come in the mail but I can’t recall if they come in that mailing or a separate one.
My son didn’t get it either.
Thank you
Are they doing any in person tours that anyone knows of? So very hard to decide when you haven’t even seen it.
If it is drivable distance, I would do that first. If you happen to know an existing student (senior to you from your own high school), reach them out to spend about an hour with you. As weather is warming up, lots of people are planning to do something similar. Admission office may have some map for self-explanatory journey. As campus is big, I would focus on area of study and few main facilities, pass by few residence halls to get some sense of area. I am afraid that due to covid protocol on campus, they do not allow visitors inside building, but something is better than nothing.
I will tell you this if wait another month, spring time, you absolutely going to love the campus.
Thank you. Took a drive and walked around the quad in October. Tried to check out the Grainger area, but everything was under construction and we were a bit lost. Was hoping there might be engineering tours, but will watch online for now.
Oh boy the new building that is being built for engineering is awesome and gorgeous. Its amenities are going to be state of art and adding a significant class capacity and easing burden on research labs in other parts of campus.
Upcoming students are certainly going to be beneficiary as it is scheduled to finish this year.
hi guys, i recently got accepted to gies and i just got an e-mail saying…
"Congratulations on your admission to Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign!
As one of our top admitted students in the Class of 2025, we are excited to invite you to apply to our Gies Honors Programs and Golder Freshman Initiative."
i am wondering if they sent this e-mail out to every student who got accepted to gies or a select group. thanks!
It doesn’t say “As one of our admitted students in the Class of 2025”
Hi just curious was the honors email date stamped this morning or last night?
i got the email feb 26 at 8:17
I got this email too!
Congrats to your son. Curious, did he consider applying to CS and second major to CE? Or he already knew he wanted to do CE and not CS?
He wanted to start with a broader scope and picked CE and hopes to pull in more CS courses into the mix. He applied to only one major because he couldn’t have picked CS as another option and he didn’t want to do Electrical Engg. It was a big gamble and we’re in-state and it worked out.
Have to add: with his background in taking some engineering courses at school and Digital Electronics, he thought he would have a better shot of being accepted for CE, and less for CS.
Good planning. Wish him all the best.
