Merit and financial aid are two different things. Merit is scholarship and UIUC is very stingy on those.
Our financial aid portal still only shows received so perhaps not everyone’s has been process. Nevertheless usually the 5k is usually around the amount of loans kids can take (I think it’s $5,500) freshman year that some often confuse with grants but not sure based on what you’re saying if people received FA or Merit money.
As we are OOS I think the tuition is around 37K and overall cost is around 50K. The aid given will definitely help offset 40% of the cost.
We were pleasantly surprised with the generous merit aid from the school.
It sounds like what they gave @VRN2021 daughter is basically enough merit that she is essentially paying the same as an in state which is too bad because she is clearly a hot prospect and that’s like nothing considering UIUC is expensive for in state. OOS tuition is 39k for engineering, so 20k off that is 19k which is just a couple thousand less than in state Engineering. They have to do better than that! It’s still going to cost them about $36k/year and that’s for moderate priced dorm and meal plan. They need to offer top prospects more $.
does anyone know how difficult is it to be accepted into the college honors programs? The website said the top 10% of the college, but my stats seem a little low for that hahaha
I just got an email about being chosen for the James Scholar Honors program. Does this mean anything important? Does it mean there’s a chance at merit scholarship?
did anyone else get an e-mail saying that you’re invited to the Golder Freshman Initiative? also did anyone apply to the gies honors program and do the interview yet?
