Haha I've posted this question on a few other forums and have recieved little to no answers, so i'll shorten it up lol. Is uiuc's Econ degree a good alt to a business degree there like finance or accounting? How good is the dept?

U of I is really well-known for its undergrad and graduate accounting programs. They are usually ranked at/near the top of the various rankings (i.e. US News and World Report and the Public Accounting Report).

Finance is also well-regarded, but is ranked a bit further down than accounting in some rankings.

I think econ is a fantastic degree, but I’m not sure that you’d have as many job opportunities. The best and brightest finance majors have a shot at working on Wall Street, while the accounting department sends a large number of grads to the Big Four accounting firms every year.

Finally some kind of response! But thanks for your answer. So would I have better luck at say, Depaul, for accounting or finance rather than econ at uiuc?

I’m currently a finance and accounting major at uiuc. The program is really top notch. The big four are here honestly at least once a week. The econ department is good but business is 100% the way to go. I have friends that are econ and wish they applied to business because it can be hard to transfer. I have learned a ton and have a great internship lined up for the summer.
