UIUC Engineering Acceptance?

I hear mixed responses in terms of acceptance. How selective is UIUC Engineering, really? I got a 32 on my ACT and will most likely maintain a 3.7 UW GPA

It varies depending on the program. Bioengineering and CompSci are extremely selective. I’ve read that less than 10% are admitted. Your stats alone probably wouldn’t qualify for those programs unless you had a ton of relevant EC, URM or other hooks. Other majors vary quite a bit. Mechanical is more selective, Industrial and Systems are much less selective. If you do choose one of the more selective majors, just be sure to include a less selective one as your second choice on the application. But pick something that interests you, because transfers into a very selective major are also difficult.

Here are stats for the middle 50% overall for students admitted in the fall 2016 to engineering:

ACT Score: 31-34
SAT Score (no writing): 1400-1530
TOEFL: 106-113
GPA: 3.68-4.00

I think I read that overall the admissions rate for engineering is over 50%, which sounds high, but consider that even rejected applicants have high stats because the pool is so competitive overall. I think your stats probably give you a good chance for many Engineering majors except for the most selective ones.

I was thinking aerospace

I got into the mechanical engineering program with a similar GPA and ACT score. If you want to do any type of engineering they look closely at how well you do in the math and science section. If your scores in math and science are a little bit higher than your overall score you should have a good chance of getting in as long as you have some good engineering related extracurriculars and write a good essay.

You have a decent chance, maybe 20%. Hard to say without more info though.

@sharksfin1998 do you think i could get in if i got Bs in geometry and biology my freshman yr of hs?

I got into Chemical Engineering with the same ACT score and a worse GPA, so you should be fine.
