UIUC Engineering chance of acceptance

Hey guys,

I'm a junior in hs and I'm just trying to get an idea of how good my chances are of getting into UIUC engineering. As far as I can tell I'm kind of borderline. I'm in-state, ACT 34 (M 34 R 34 E 35 S 32), UWGPA 3.32, WGPA 4.07, class rank 53 / 509. As for class rigor, I'm in all honors/AP core classes. Currently I'm in AP Calc BC, AP US History, and AP English Language. AP tests are in the next two weeks. I got a 4 on my AP Comp Sci test last year. The only extracurriculars I can think of are orchestra (I'm in a separate from school audition orchestra as well) and church service for several years.

Next year I plan to take:
Honors English
AP Physics
AP Government, AP Econ
AP Spanish (questionable)
Calculus III via the UIUC Netmath program

Btw, I am Asian. I dunno if that'll be a factor due to the Asian-heavy student demographic...

Your in to any department in UIUC

I will have a 3.2-3.3
26-28 ACT
Have taken or will take AP US, AP Comparative Gov, AP Bio, Acc. Physics and Biotech.
Engineering Club Pres, Aviation club pres, 4 yrs Wrestling and MANY more Clubs/Jobs

My chances?

I will probably apply undecided!

Haha, I think I can say that you would get in based on the class profile from last year, your situation is a little more straightforward.

stranger7- your ACT score is obviously great and you’re schedule seems very strong so these two factors will help you out tremendously. The only weakness about your profile is your GPA, which is slightly low, but honestly I think you will get accepted to the college of engineering. However, I think you will get placed in to general engineering, but you can go major in any type of engineering after freshman year.

amanravi- can you specify your weighted and unweighted gpa? Right now, I would say you have a 50/50 chance of getting into DGS, but if you’re weighted GPA is higher or your ACT score is above 28, you will definitely be in.

Thanks for the input…have any estimate if I want to go into EE/ME?

I would get a job asap for the summer!

OP, I’m fairly confident you have nothing to worry about. You have a strong ACT score and a demanding high school schedule. As long as you write a decent essay you’re in, especially if you happen to be in-state.
