The CoE is a very selective school, and I understand that different engineering majors have higher selectivity compared to others. I’m very undecided on my engineering major, yet I am currently leaning towards Computer Engineering but with little confirmation that I’ll keep that major after my first year.
How hard would it be for me to get into computer engineering as it’s said to be more competitive than the other fields? My ACT was a 33 with a 36 in math and 35 in science, and I am in the top 2 percent of my class of 350 with my GPA. Should I apply as a computer engineering student or would my chances be low?
Also, because of my high uncertainty, how hard is it to change from one engineering school to another at UIUC?
Any words of advice are appreciate!
Computer Engineering at UIUC is super competitive. ACT 33 is below the admission average. For UIUC engineering, you apply to the major directly instead of the Engineering school. The mid 50 ACT of the whole engineering school has been 31-34 in the last couple years and their admission average GPA is ~3.9. The mid 50 varie with major though, For Computer Engineering, it is likely 33-35.
I think your chances are good.
the most crucial question is whether you are in state or OOS.
I am in state. Does this help my chances?
Definitely. At least you should be admitted by the school if not Computer Engineering. What would be your second choice major? What is your uwGPA?
My second choice would be Aerospace or Electrical Engineering. My uwGPA is 3.9 and I took the most rigorous schedule available to me filled with AP and honors classes.
Then you should be accepted as the in state admission rate is around 70%. The question is which major.
