UIUC (Gies) vs IU [business, IU not direct admit]

I have been admitted to UIUC Gies and Indiana University but not as a direct admit to Kelly, I will have to go through the standard procedure of applying to Kelly after 2 semesters at IU. Is it worth it for me to take the chance on IU when I possibly won’t make it to Kelly or do i just go with Gies.

That is an interesting result, as IU Kelley is generally much easier to gain direct admission to than Gies.

Regardless, these biz schools are ranked similarly so I would take the direct admit to Gies, which is also the smaller program. What major are you leaning towards?

ETA: just confirming you did not meet the direct admit criteria to Kelley which are a 3.8 weighted GPA (or highest gpa on transcript) and act 30/sat 1370?

I missed the deadline for applying to Direct admit to Kelly, and also my SAT score was was a 1270 so i guess i wouldn’t have gotten in anyway D:
But i applied to all colleges with the "test optional " …option? so it didn’t require me to send my SAT scores to any of the colleges.

Got it. You must have a strong transcript to have been accepted to Gies as a test optional candidate! Good luck whichever you choose.

Thanks a lot !

I’m a big fan of direct admit programs so I’d choose Gies. If you do go to IU you should have an alternate major you could be happy with in the event you don’t get into Kelley.

Yeah I don’t think I would want to apply to any of the other schools at IU besides Kelly so i guess UIUC is just better for me. Thanks a lot! this helped

Depends on what state you live in. If you’re out of state for both, then neither. It’s not worth paying triple the cost for out of state tuition.

^ This. If one is in-state, choose that one, unless money is no object.

The business schools are both fine, and both are Big Ten flagships. Beyond cost, a distant second thing to consider would obviously be fit.
