I thought I was dead before with the old tuition. Now I've been put through the slaughterhouse.

can someone point me to the web page that specifies the total cost of attendance for 2008-09 at uiuc?

http://www.osfa.uiuc.edu/cost/

That's disgusting. Student will opt for Iowa, Indiana, NIU, SIU, EIU, Loyola Chicago, etc. UIUC is becoming a school for only the rich.

The university is driving away potential students to go elsewhere.

The University of Miami is cheaper for me now, and they're one of the most expensive private schools out there.

The UIUC tuition hike was also given a nod on NBC Nightly News last night:

msnbc.com Video Player

would someone enrolled in LAS (english, psych) be under the Fine and Applied arts from the above link?

Program Tuition Fees Room and Board Books and Supplies Other Expenses Total
Base Rate 9,242 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 24,714
Fine and Applied Arts 10,442 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 25,914

no, fine and applied arts is a different college (i.e. landscape design, architecture, theater arts, music, etc.)

Geez. I have now received more mail from UIUC than all the other colleges I was accepted to COMBINED. The letters are now coming weekly. First the info packet. Then the acceptance. Then the James Scholar acceptance. Then the James Scholar information. Then directions to accept the offer of admission. THEN financial aid (which was nothing but loans). FINALLY a letter to my parents encouraging them to encourage me to accept their offer of admission. If they want me that bad, they should give me a scholarship.

yeah, they have gone CRAZY with the mail....

which college, or entry below, would be the applicable cost for a English-Psych major?

Undergraduate Resident
2008-2009 Cost
Students who Enrolled Summer 2008, Fall 2008, or Spring 2009 Program Tuition Fees Room and Board Books and Supplies Other Expenses Total

Base Rate 9,242 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 24,714
Fine and Applied Arts 10,442 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 25,914
Chem/Life Science 13,394 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 28,866
Business 13,394 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 28,866
Engineering 13,394 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 28,866
Journalism 9,942 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 25,414
ACES (CPSC, NRES) 10,338 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 25,810
ACES (ANSC, FSHN, TSM/ABE) 11,432 2,998 8,764 1,200 2,510 26,904

Just the base rate would apply to you.

thanks, seren. I notice that in the above rate table, uiuc includes more items than what I usually see listed in other colleges' COA (which is tuition, fees, room and board). So when comparing with other colleges, I must be sure to include similar costs.

I hate the tuition system that we use here, where your tuition is set forever at what it was when you started going here. It pretty much gives the university a free pass to raise tuition to whatever they want, knowing that the current students aren't going to complain because it doesn't affect them.

Actually, they're required to guarantee your tuition upon entering the school for four years.

unless u switch to a different type of college

So the base rate quoted above of 24,714 includes all direct and indirect costs to go to UIUC.

Did I read right that this rate is fixed for four years?

tuition is the only one that stays the same. but if you move into an apartment or something later on, it should be a little less. also if you switch colleges, you might be subjected to a different rate

do you get what I said?
