HI,
I got accepted in UIUC as an electrical engineering major.
Which house should I choose among these?(I'm a male btw)

Florida Avenue
Ikenberry Commons North
Ikenberry Commons South
Illinois Street
Pennsylvania Avenue

Also, I read in the website that Ikenberry has music practice rooms.
Are there lots of music practice rooms, and do they have pianos?

Thanks!

Hey! I’m an electrical engineering major, too! (but I’m a girl)

Even so, here’s what I picked (top 3) and why. If you could reply with your opinions, that would help me out, too, because I’m not sure if I’ve missed any information that would change my decision.

Illinois Street. This is the best possible place (I think) for an engineer. Right near eng. quad, a lot of other engineers in the dorm. AIR CONDITIONING! Decent rooms, good food. Social life is pretty good, but certainly not as “Animal House” as any of the Ikenberry Commons dorms.

Florida Avenue: For me this was specifically for the Women in Engineering living-learning community that’s there. This doesn’t apply to you, lol. But, it’s still a very nice dorm, with okay food, air conditioning. It is, however, pretty far away from everything (but there’s a really good bus system).

Allen Hall: You didn’t have this on your list, so I’m not going to go into depth. I’ve heard it’s a nice place, though.

My opinion is that the Ikenberry dorms will give you a lot more of the stereotypical partying college students, which I personally want to avoid. Engineering is going to be a difficult major, and I want somewhere that I can study. If you want more pressure to party than to study, Ikenberry’s right up your alley, though.

Pennsylvania Avenue is supposedly nice, but is also fairly far away from everything. I don’t know much about it.

Thank you for your reply bellakasumi.
It seems like Illinois Street will be perfect for me, I’m not a party person at all and good to know that Illinois Street is close to engineer departments :).
And I didn’t know Florida Avenue was for women :P, thanks for the info!
Once again, thanks for your reply, this will help me a lot :).

The entire Florida Avenue dorm is not just for women–only a few floors of it are. You can still apply there.

And glad to help! I’m trying to figure this all out, too
