[UIUC] Is the order of first major and second major matters?

I am strongly prepared for computer science. However, I chose general Undeclared as my second major and Computer Science as the first to lower the risk. However, I wonder if this is the safest choice? Should I put Undeclared first? Or as some other universities like Washington, even never consider the college you apply for in their review?

You are fine. You are initially evaluated for first choice and, if accepted for that, you are done and you are not considered for second choice; if rejected for first choice, they then go on to second choice. Thus, if you had put undeclared first and were accepted for that, you would not be considered for computer science.

Note, you could have put a different second choice and still possibly be considered for undeclared admission to the Division of Gedneral Studies. That is because those rejected for both first and second choice are then considered for undeclared even though they have not listed it, but you are OK as is.

S did not choose a second major. He left it blank. Partly because he only wants aerospace engineering and partly because he didn’t want to write an essay on why he chose something else as his second choice. Writing an essay about your second choice is a bit silly if you ask me. I guess this is a risk, but for him it was either aerospace engineering or he goes to another college.

If you don’t get into your first choice (which is CS) consider this…transferring into CS in the engineering school would require for you to have GPA of 3.6 or higher.
