Thanks!

In-state and out-of-state applicants are evaluated on the same basis (you don't need higher grades/test scores than in-sate to get in). Class rank/ACT middle 50% range for school of business tends to be about top 18% to top 5%, 28-32. However, that particular college considers factors such as essays and EC's to be very important and those with high stats have been rejected (this year's news reports were full of stories about students with 35 and 36 ACT's being rejected by the school of business). Also, that college has the lowest admission rate (only about 40% this year).

Do you know the admission rate for engineering?

Usually in the high 60's. Nevertheless, it still has the highest middle 50% ranges -- generally in top 15% to top 3% and 29 to 32 ACT. The reason its admission rate is higher is because its applicants are more self-selective than the other colleges -- most of those who apply have high class rank and ACT scores; it gets about 3500 applicants and admits about 2400 for the hoped for enrollment of 1200. Business has a desired enrollment closer to 600 and for upcoming class got about 2900 applications of which it admitted about 1200.

Agriculture engineering may accept lower stats but they have a very tough standard to get in: you have to prove your interest in "agriculture" engineering. Too many regular engineering people have tried to slip in through this door and the university has cracked down to prevent it. However, for someone who truly has an interest in agricultural engineering applications, this creates a wonderful opportunity. UIUC is, afterall, an agricultural land grant university so they must remain true to their mission.

The Business School is one of the toughest admission at UIUC, period.
