I would highly recommend that you got to UIUC. My sister went there and had a blast. Her boyfriend majors in engineering and he feels hes getting a great education. Illinios also is big into sports, which makes it more fun. Also, bigger schools tend to have better technology, so thats why i feel overall Illinios is better than CMU. Both schools have excellent reputations, and i congratulate you for that.

I'm in a similar situation as you. I applied to CMU for SCS/CIT but got waitlisted for SCS. Ultimately my choices are going to come down to U of Michigan and Cornell (if i get in). The reason why I eliminated CMU from my choice was because of the lack of a social life I would have there. Both UIUC and CMU are great schools, but if a full college experience is what you're looking for then you may tip the balance in favor of UIUC. As for computer sci, CMU has an unrivaled program but UIUC isn't too far behind. I guess it all comes down to personal preference and what you want out of your college experience.

ther ece programs ar at par cmu is much better in cs but ther is no social life at cmu though from a job point of view and getting into grad school i feel cmu will be better

maybe for the core classes in the start as u get specialized man u should be fine in uiuc i think man cmu is really up tight in someways unless u really know what ur in for i would goto uiuc which i am probably going to goto unless i get in carnegie and re - consider

You will definately have bigger classes, more grad TAs that don't speak english and less interested professors at Illinois than at CMU. I think it depends on what you are looking for. If you want the big time college experience, go to Illinois. If you like being in a city and going to a little smaller of a school then CMU would be your choice. I think your teachers and undergrad classroom experience will be a little better at CMU.

I have never really had a problem with TA's at all. I have one TA for calc that I hated b/c she was an idiot but otherwise I have liked all my TA's. And if you get one you can understand, you will after a while. Especially if you go to office hours and talk one on one. Of course I had the worst speaking prof ever for my physics class at my local junior college the previous summer so I think that prepared me for any challenges with english (or engrish) that I have encountered. I don't know anything about CMU but dr_reynolds was right about the evironment. A trip to campus should help with that. You might want to think about CompE which is a combination of CS and EE but anyways U of I just got brand new facilities for it's CS majors and I heard they are really nice. They were building it at this time last year went I went on the engineering tour. I still say Illinois as long as the evironment is right.
