UIUC or GTECH for CE?

I got accepted into UIUC and GTech for their computer engineering programs and now I need to choose. I got in for the James Scholar Program for UIUC, but GTech is slightly cheaper than UIUC. I also heard that GTech is extremely stressful & difficult. Anyone have any inputs/ comments on where I should go? Please help!

Both great engineering programs, if your family would be financially stressed by UIUCs price I’d go with GT

Go Georgia Tech. They have a great Business school if you ever decide to change major

Xtreme, UIUC has a very good business school as well.
Have you visited both campuses? Which do you prefer in terms of fit?

I did get a chance to visit both campuses but I was so cramped for time that I only was able to attend the tours before I had to get on the plane. So 2-3 hours / campus. GTech has a smaller campus & I like the atmosphere and it seems more diverse but I’ve heard that the coursework is really rigorous and I’m scared of not being able to achieve the GPA i want/need. Also if I do their co-op program, there’s a chance I might not be able to graduate in 4 years. UIUC has a larger campus, is more spaced out, and apparently a lot of the social life is based around the greek life there BUT i’m in their james scholar program which means early registration for classes… so I’m kind of conflicted & not sure where to go. Both have brilliant CE programs though…

It’s not that my family’s financially stressed, it’s just something that is a “pro” for GTech

Yes, the coursework at GT is rigorous, but I would expect the CE coursework at UIUC to be equally rigorous. This is the nature of engineering programs. GT’s reputation is probably because a higher percentage of their students are in rigorous majors compared to other schools, but your experience will likely be very similar at other schools if you compare them for the same major.
