UIUC or Imperial College

hey guys I am an International Applicant. I have applied both to USA and UK for electrical/electronic engineering
I have a conditional offer from Imperial College London and UCL in UK and so far only at University of Illinois Urbana Champagne in USA
Both have extremely great Engineering faculties and Rankings too...
But there are many IF's and BUT

WHY UIUC
1 .Transfer to a top-tier school after freshman year
2. Greater Prospects of Scholarship
3. Reputed for EC in USA
4. Financially more Economical
5. Job Prospects in USA are better ( i am going to do masters )

WHY IMPERIAL
1. One of the best Uni's in da world with reputed Engineering
2. Three Years for Bachelors or 4 Years straight masters

Imperial and UK will be more expensive( not that my parents cannot or are not willing to afford it ) but it is Important to me as it a hell lot of money.
I am considering the option of 3 yr bach in UK and then Masters in USA... job prospects and financially better

HOWEVER THERES A CATCH

Imperial has conditional offer - My final A level results come out in August, if i dont get the grades i dont get in... SIMPLE ...
By August IF i dont get the grades then reply to UIUC will be WAY TOO LATE...

Another Thought - Can i accept my offer at UIUC and accept the Conditional at Imperial.... INCASE I GET IN IMPERIAL --- can i take back my response to UIUC???
Please guide me on where to go and if i am considering the above options what should i do ? Thanks

Please someone reply… REALLY NEED SOME URGENT HELP… please… :(

Deposit at UIUC, get into Imperial, lose your deposit and go to Imperial. People do this with waitlists all the time.

what ghostt said :)

and, imperial is much much better than UIUC… many people use UIUC as a safety.

Am not familiar with acceptance rules at Imperial. However for UIUC: you can accept by May 1 and then later withdraw. If you do not accept by May 1, you will automatically lose your admission. Other issue you have is applying for housing. You need to do that by May 15 and put up $150 deposit. If you later cancel you lose deposit. If you wait too long to cancel housing (not sure of last date but could be as early as July), they can actually charge you for the first semester. If you delay applying for housing until after May 15, you will be relegated to whatever is left over after giving housing to those who applied by May 15, which is often temporary rooms built where lounges are, and if you wait too long such as wait until August to apply for housing you will may have difficult time getting any at all.

Thanks!!! yeah even i consider Imperial a way way better college… UIUC was a safety… unfortunately got rejected at all other top-tier schools in USA… only thing pullin me was that in Electrical/Electronic Engineering UIUC is pretty good… but I guess Imperial is just way more better… btw what are the relative scholarship chances… and transfer rates… and is it a risk going to UIUC on the basis of takin a transfer next year considering the transfer acceptance…

Imperial is great, congrats! Don’t pass it up, but also have a safety option. And study hard for the A-levels XD

i noe rankingwise Imperial is at da top but Urbana for EEE and Computing also comes 3rd in USA… the only thing attracting me towards Urbana… moreover the US system is the flexibility and transparency in the education system… the way u can take credits and select ur courses how u want whereas in UK there is a more rigid system with a fixed syllabus… ne more thoughts on this… is it wise to sacrifice imperial for UIUC?

UIUC is good but Imperial is definitely better… (That’s my opinion anyway)
And UK universities give you Master’s in 4 Yrs (Integrated Course)…

Hmmm… to my last post are there any other responses… bcos the last post has significance importance on my consideration…

Now apart from university considerations in terms of ranks and syllabus… I am planning to settle in the USA… so is it better to UG at Imperial and Graduate in USA or starting off in USA will give me a better edge by going to UIUC

Another thing is which of these uni’s has a better campus life and student life and also extra-curricular and sport options

Besides Oxbridge, other top UK universities aren’t as well respected among graduate schools in the US as they are in the UK. I’m sure people at MIT, Stanford or Berkeley are familiar with Imperial but I am quite certain, everything being equal, they would choose a graduate from UIUC over someone with a degree from Imperial.

if i am considerin to pursue my masters in USA… and probably get a job down there too… would it be better to take a degree from UIUC or take a masters from Imperial and then another masters from USA… which will give me a better opportunity if my future is most likely Usa

sorry…i know this is not related but what were your predicted grades like?
