UIUC or JHU for physics

Hi,

I’v been admitted to UIUC (LAS for physics) and am still waiting to hear from JHU

Purely from an academic view point, which school will give me a better shot of getting into a top grad school for physics? (MIT,CalTech,P-ton…)

If anyone could write about their experience at either school, pros and cons, or just what they have heard through the grape vine.

I’v also gotten into CU-boulder and Maryland college park, waiting on UT Austin. (I don’t think any of these schools top UIUC)

P.S: Im a very serious student ( only since I left high school… lol) I didn’t have the grades outside of math and science to apply to ivy status schools.

Any one of the ones you have mentioned will give you an excellent physics education if you put the effort into it. Graduate programs don’t care where you got your degree but what you did in your undergraduate studies. You need to take the most challenging courses and have significant research experience.

I graduated form UIUC many years ago and it was a fine program then as it is now.

Thank you

How does UIUC’s program compare to MIT,Caltech,Stanford… ??

@scienceandfun I have a different opinion: I think you should go to JHU if admitted. Precisely, UIUC’s research capacity might just be a tier lower than schools like MIT, Caltech, Stanford, but UIUC is a huge public school where I doubt you would get much personal attention. Going to JHU will at least ensure that you have access to more resources on a personal level.
