<p>My daughter will be applying in the fall to both programs. I am fairly confident she will get accepted at both. She loves UIUC and of course overall it is a superior school. However, I believe Mizzou has a great Media/Journalism program. I am also fairly certain she will get direct admit to both. Any thoughts?</p>
<p>UIUC is only considered “superior” because of their admissions standards, but that doesn’t prove it is superior once you are there. I would think you should visit both schools and learn as much as you can about their programs and their overall concern about helping their students. My vibe from UIUC was more of a concern about themselves and their reputation than about the student. That’s just my personal opinion. Mizzou’s journalism school is number one in the country. So, if your daughter knows she wants this major, I would think Mizzou would be a better choice. You didn’t ask about the financial aspect, so I assume that isn’t an issue one way or the other.</p>
<p>I was accepted to schools that are considered “superior” to Mizzou but I picked Mizzou based on the Journalism school and faculty. After I visiting Mizzou I felt that it was the best journalism program for me and the faculty was willing to work with me so I could double major and graduate in 4 years. Every single person that I met with at Mizzou was welcoming, informed and encouraging. I cant say that about some of the other schools that I visited. </p>

<p>No…you did not insult me. Just think that if you are sure that you want to major in a certain area you should look at a school that is strong in that area and not worry about overall ranking</p>
<p>Agree. I wasn’t insulted either. I do sometimes get bothered by people that look at rankings of admissions standards and apply that to the overall school once a student actually attends. One doesn’t necessarily equal the other. I think visiting is one of your best ways to tell what school is the best fit.</p>
