UIUC or UWaterloo for computer science.

Georgia Tech doesn’t base admission on major. So the average SAT and GPA of each major should be around that of the whole school.

… which is dominated by intended engineers.

^Again it’s preferred admits. Only those who start out in the college of engineering as freshmen and NOT all of the college of engineering. OP is interested in CS not engineering.

[Stats and Facts | Department of Computer Science at Illinois](http://cs.illinois.edu/csillinois/stats)
This is the stats of CS at UIUC. ACT composite is 31.99 = 32.
I doubt Georgia Tech is better than UIUC as i heard that UIUC is in the top 5 CS schools in the States.

I’d be careful of puffery based upon data of unspecified or unknown origin. If you look at the Common Data set for UIUC, you’ll see that the 75 percentile of all students is 31 Composite and 33 Math. What’s being represented is an obvious lie by the CS department. CS students are not comprised of only the smartest students on the campus.

Anyways, do you think it is easy for a UIUC grad to find jobs in the States?

Very easy for both UIUC and Georgia Tech grads who do well. The top companies attend their career fairs. I’ve attended the one at UIUC. My company recruits at both.

What are some of the universities that are “better” than UIUC in terms of computer science?

I heard many horror stories about Berkeley’s EECS.

What horror stories? CMU is better than UIUC.

about the intense grading curve.

Your going to find the intense grading curve at all of the schools you mentioned. It’s difficult to be soft in these places.

but is berkeley worse?
Or are all of these schools as hard?

All of these schools are hard. That’s why their graduates who make it through on average have more capabilities and are sought after by recruiters. That’s what makes them top schools. They pack more depth into 4 years. This rigor is not ideal for everybody. People who don’t do well might have been better served by a less rigorous school.

I believe that UIUC is tough, but many told me that Berkeley is tougher

CS is hard. UIUC has top students from Illinois, UCB has top students from CA.

I am leaning more towards UIUC as I believe I can get scholarship there, which allows for priority registration of classes. Should this be a deciding factor in my decision?

Anyone else want to comment. Any uiuc or UWaterloo grads here?

anyone else???
