Hey
I am transferring from in state to U of I in Champaign. I am going to be a sophomore and I am at Mizzou right now. I am a film major right now and I want to switch to English. I have a 3.5 GPA for last semester and am on track for another strong semester. All of the classes I am taking now and transferrable and work for the new major.
In high school I had about a 2.8 GPA and was not ranked very well at my high school. I got a 25 on my ACT but I think this is low for UIUC.
I have heard that transferring is easier than getting in the first time. I am hoping that my hard work in college at a reputable school will help me.
I was also pretty involved in sports and activities all throughout high school.

I am interpreting what you say to mean you will be attempting a transfer into next fall as a sophomore. A chance at English but understand UIUC rules: (a) when attempting to transfer after freshman year into sophomore, your high school record and test score are still important and preference is given to those who likely would have been admitted as freshman; (b) when transfering into junior year (and for some programs even second semester sophomore), your high school record and test score are not considered for admission, only your college grades are.

You thus have the issue that you would likely not have been admitted freshman year. That does not mean you will, in fact, be rejected – your college record looks good and that is very important – but it does mean you should consider it somewhat of a reach.

Size of school is not really a relevant issue. Coming from in-state as a resident does help. For freshman admissions, they do not apply a preference for in-state over OOS but for transfer admission Illinois residents are given a preference.
