So I saw this for previous years, but not this year so I thought might as well…
I applied to ACES for an NRES major and they had received everything by Jan. 27. Previously went to SIUC, now currently a CC due to some problems, GPA at SIUC was 3.556, was in the honors, and have a strong research background. Sadly, since I had less than 30 credits when applying, I had to submit my HS transcript, but by the end of this semester I should have a total of 40! Read on the other threads for previous years, people started getting accepted/hearing back a week from now, even though it says April, although it could have changed. But, I’m hoping that’s not the case! Haha.
I applied to transfer for Fall 2015 as well. I’m checking my application status every day…I’m getting antsy!
I’m currently at a CC in northwestern Illinois and finishing my AS this semester. I applied to LAS in the Specialized Physics Curriculum. I’ve currently got a 3.90, and I’ve completed honors sequences in physics, calculus, and chemistry at my CC. I’ve got quite a few good EC’s as well, but that’s not really so important in transfer applications. I have an abundance of credits. I think I’ll have 103 after this semester. I’m not sure if that will be a good thing or a bad thing though.
I’m hoping that decisions come out sooner than April. I imagine they will. They don’t have a specific decision release date like some schools do. They don’t exactly have ‘rolling admissions,’ but I think they release their decisions in waves.
I applied to UIC as well, and I got my acceptance a few weeks ago. UIC is more of a safety school for me though. It’s still a great school, but for physics UIUC is definitely better.
Same! When did you apply? I applied a bit late around Jan. 19th so I’m a bit nervous right now aha.
I’m currently at CC this semester located near Chicago. As for GPA, it says for NRES you need at least a 2.5, which I pass by a full +1.0 and I hope they do consider some ECs. I have a variety of Interns and research experience, more than the average sophomore so I’m hoping that’ll help. I will have around 40 credits when transferring though.
I wish they had rolling admissions! Haha. I applied to DePaul, UIC, and Loyola as well. I’ve been accepted to DePaul and Loyola, but I’m kind of positive I’ll be accepted in UIC so that’ll be my backup.
I submitted my application shortly after they opened up, so I got it in really early. I submitted it around the end of September as I recall. The internships and research experience will definitely help. Research is a big deal at UIUC, so it’s gotta look good. I don’t really have any actual research experience aside from the honors projects in my physics and chemistry courses.
Gotcha. I hope my late application won’t look too bad haha. Hopefully they do! My friend was saying that NRES isn’t that challenging to get into, but I still have my doubts. Since I was just accepted to UIC, I’m taking a little sigh of relief and just need to hear back from UIUC. Hopefully they’ll reply soon since the freshman are going to be notified on this Friday.
I’m sure your great GPA will make up for it tho! 3.9 is high for any major haha.
They try to notify transfer applicants of admission decisions 2-4 weeks after application is complete. This varies based upon program, number of openings, number of applicants, and strength of application. My cousin’s application to LAS Psychology was complete December 22nd, and she received her decision January 6th.
Gotcha. Well if haven’t heard of too many applicants for ACES, let alone NRES, so hopefully I’ll hear back soon and all haha. However, I don’t know how strong my app is in the first place tho aha
I’m getting antsy too. She didn’t submit her application until around January 10th or so. I submitted mine in September right after they first opened up. I still haven’t heard back. I’m starting to get nervous.
I already signed a lease on an apartment in Urbana too. (O_O)
Well maybe they’re doing it by college? Yours should be coming next before mine! Haha.
I find it weird that she got her decision before the freshman were even told about their admission tho. I really hope I hear back soon tho.
I’m not sure when she checked. She posted it on Facebook about an hour ago. She just said that she got her acceptance today.
I’m taking this as a good sign. From what I’ve seen online, transfer decisions have started coming out right around this time. Hopefully we hear something soon.
I’m in love with the campus as well. Have you visited it?
I live about 3 hours away from it, and I’ve been there 3 times now. My CC has a program that goes on various campus visits to speak with advisers and take the tour and everything, so I’ve gotten a chance to meet with a physics adviser, tour some of the physics labs, and see some of the big research experiments that they’re doing. It was awesome. One of my friends applied there as a chem major, so I got to see a bunch of the chemistry labs too.
I’m sure enough about being accepted that I already signed a lease on an apartment. I’m still getting nervous waiting though. This apartment will be great. I’m majoring in physics, and the apartment is about a 3-4 minute walk away from the physics building. It’s a perfect location for me.
Yup! I’ve been there around 6 or 7 times. I have a long history of family that used to go there haha. Although I haven’t got to speak with any of the professors since if I do get in, I’ll be the first non law/finance major in the family to go.
I’d probably be living the dorms for the first year, which I don’t mind at all honestly haha.
I literally just checked again now even tho nothing would have changed anyways haha.
