Fall 2015 Transfer thread was great. I thought we should do another one here.
I will apply for CS in COE. I currently have 4.0 GPA and have finished all of the suggested coursework, except Thermal or Quantum Physics. I think I will miss that course since my school is not offering it in Spring 2016.
The average of GPA for COE’s CS went up to 3.8 from 3.5 in just one year. UIUC is my only choice, so I’m a bit worried.
@PitLV2109 pick several choices! Based on your GPA, you seem to be in great shape for UIUC, but you should always have alternatives. There’s more than one path to achieving what you want in the long-term, so stay open. I also recommend a book called ‘the art of the college essay’, really great book about writing authentically.
I applied a few weeks ago and has just been requested to submit my syllabi for some of my classes (from an out of state university). Does this mean anything?
I just made an account so that I could say that I’ve received my acceptance into the college of business - Accounting today for the fall 2016 semester! I turned in everything a few days ago in order to hit the priority for transferring, and I just accepted the university’s offer! Good luck to everyone else applying!
Long time U of I and UW Madison thread lurker. This site helped me a lot in my college search. In particular the decision/application threads helped me quite a bit. I would just like to say that I got my decision from Illinois today. I got accepted to the Computer Science and Statistics program. I’m an Illinois community college transfer. I was sure that I would get rejected being a junior college student (didn’t even bother applying last semester to the U of I). To all my fellow community college students, don’t lose hope. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet about how CS/CS+X is impossible to transfer to. Don’t believe all of that baloney!
For me I am in a community college in Illinois.
My college GPA is 3.83 (am junior, so high school was not evaluated)
I have all of the business + accounting prereqs + recommended courses done as well.
ECs: I work 2 part time jobs (20hr/wk), am in student government and also assist during local elections.
I also thought that I was accepted extremely early. Once I turned everything in, it was a 3 day process until I was accepted. Last year I was rejected for not having all of my classes done, and even that took 2 weeks. I called to verify that it was correct, and an admissions officer told me what the committee member wrote regarding my application. Having a high GPA and having all of my prerequisite courses done stood out to them. They also said that it varies from person to person and by department. I honestly think my essay had an influence as well. Though, I think that hearing back so soon is atypical. I am an Illinois resident, and maybe that is why I heard back so soon as well?
I had a really strong essay that basically stated my strong desire to attend. I have visited the school, and specifically set out to transfer to UIUC. Then I said all of the things that I plan to participate in when I get there (really emphasized that I had a plan in place). Also if you have any W’s or work that is lower than your normal performance, it doesn’t hurt to address it and explain it properly in the academic challenges part. Personally, I had to drop a couple classes one semester due to finances, and I let them know that.
Let’s see… I needed to either take calc 2 or finite math, which I was going to do over the summer last year, but the Business school has a rule, and all classes have to be done by the spring. Then I also didn’t have my language requirement or the nonwestern culture class as well. I am retaking the ones I had to drop because of my finances last year, so that is finite and macroeconomics.
I noticed that you had said that your school is not offering the couple of classes that you need. Maybe talk to a counselor about it. Usually it isn’t a problem if your school doesn’t offer it (I mean, what else could you do?). I was able to attach a letter to my application since I had some W’s I was worried about, and I didn’t want my application turned down because of it
My application was completed on 11 Feb. Hopefully, the decision would release in a month!
I am an international student who is currently studying psychology at CCC.
My College GPA (at CCC) is 4.0 and not many of ECs (VP of PsycClub, Research Experience, etc).
Furthermore,
I went to a training college (vocational college) in my home country.
I got 1.7 GPA there.
My HS GPA was not good, either. It was also around 1.7 GPA I guess. (I do not know exactly since we do not use GPA system).
I hope the university would not count that much on my previous works.
From Michigan State University
GPA : 3.16
Junior
Out of state
Applied for Global Studies
submitted everything before Feb. 1st
really hope I get in
Anyone applying for global studies major?
@PitLV2109 Today, I was also requested to submit some syllabi. What happened when you submitted your syllabi? Have you already gotten accepted from UIUC?
Thank youl
@jackpotgirl777 I haven’t heard anything yet. CS at UIUC’s COE is extremely competitive so I don’t think I will find out the decision before mid-April. According to this forum and r/UIUC, most people who were requested their syllabi got in. Hopefully, we will make it, too
After checking MyIllini multiple times a day for almost a month, I was offered admission yesterday! My stats are:
Everything in by Feb 1st for the priority deadline
Current freshman at out of state school, but Illinois resident
2.76 college GPA
3.5 high school GPA
ACT 30
Honors college at my current school
2 part time jobs and volunteer hours
Started last semester as a bio major (which is why my GPA is a 2.76) but switched to history for this semester and the application
I hope everyone gets in! I was really doubting I would get in because of my GPA from last semester but I really feel that my strong essays helped. Good luck everyone!
I’ve applied for MCB with IB as a second choice. I have all of the MCB requirements done and a couple of the highly recommended classes. I have all of the IB requirements done and most of the highly recommended classes.
My stats are:
CC GPA: 3.23
HS GPA: 3.96
PT job
Many volunteer hours (300+ in college)
My file has been completed long before February 1st.
Hi guys! I was wondering if anyone else has a UIN on their application under “Applicant Information”?
I’m a current freshman at a CC in Illinois. I applied and was accepted to UIUC last year for Fall of 2015, I even accepted my offer of admission but decided to go to a CC last minute to save money. I applied for MCB in LAS for the fall of 2016. Is there a higher chance of me being accepted as a transfer since I was accepted as a freshman?
