Schools to chance me on:

-University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (FIRST CHOICE)
-University of Illinois at Chicago (3)
-University of Wisconsin-Madison (2)
-University of Minnesota (4)
-Northern Illinois University (5)

Thanks!

(intended major: Probably engineering, but applying as undecided first!)

For UIC engineering, your class rank and ACT score are on the low side. The average ACT score is closer to 27 and class rank is about 80th percentile. For LAS, your stats are a little better. The average ACT score is a 24 and class rank is about the 75th percentile. I don’t know how they will act. UIC places more weight on class rank than GPA. In your case, things like extracurriculars and essay will play more of a role.

Your ACT and class rank are significantly below UIUC engineering average. UIUC is a huge reach for you.

I can’t see Illinois, Madison, or U of M happening without a higher ACT score, and even then I would have concerns.

How did you do on the AP Lang exam?

UIC is a match. NIU is a safety.

Illinois @ Urbana: If you apply to undecided (I can’t remember if that’s LAS or DGS), you have a chance but not a particularily good one. With that rank, It’d be really helpful to have ATLEAST a 27 on the ACT to begin to offset it.

Wisconsin @ Madison: Honestly, I don’t think you have a good chance. I feel bad saying that, but I encourage you to apply and see what happens.

Minnesota: I don’t know a lot about it. But from what I DO know, you apply directly into the program you’ll be studying and the requirements vary. (Don’t hold me to that, though.) Can’t really chance you though.

UIC and NIU: You shouldn’t have much of a problem.

I’m applying to U of I and Wisconsin too. Good luck.

@Nova10:

Thanks for the input…will an SAT score of 1900-2100 help me by any chance?

@Sang54:

Yeah, I know…I don’t expect getting into my first choice at UIUC…maybe DGS, but still a major reach.

@toshimelonhead:

I know what you mean, I’m really not that good of an admission test taker. I will probably hit top 25% in rank this year…but still. I got a 2 on the AP Lang Exam…but got A’s both semesters in class…really disappointed on how I did.

@Cody2010:

I’ll chance you in a couple of minutes. But thanks for the input. Maybe the SAT will save me?

yes i agree, take the SAT some do better on one or the other. I thought it was easier than ACT.

unlike private schools, state schools usually just look at numbers (GPA, SAT, ACT, SAT 2, Class rank), they take ECS and essays in to very little consideration…

UIC gets so few SAT scores submitted that they don’t report the averages. A score of 2000 on the SAT is higher than a 22 on the ACT.

@Nova10:

Do I have a good chance of getting into at least UIC?

Your GPA is average for UIC. Your class rank though is very low for both LAS and engineering. Only a small number of accepted students have that low of a class rank. You did take a vigorous class load. Apply to UIC early because they use rolling admissions. Applications should be available soon. I say you have a decent shot at the school. You can always come down and talk with admissions. You can apply to both college of engineering and LAS.

Nova, I think you’re talking about UIUC, not UIC.

@Cody2010:

I hope so, because I heard UIC wasn’t that HARD to get into.

@Nova10:

Do you mean UIC or UIUC? Hopefully, UIUC…but thanks for the input…lol.

I am talking about UIC, the University of Illinois at Chicago. The acceptance rate at UIC is less than UIUC. His class rank is very poor for UIC in general. UIC has rolling admissions and UIUC does not have traditional rolling admissions. He has an average ACT for UIC LAS but below average for UIC COE. His GPA is about average for both schools.
UIC just posted the Fall 2008 freshman profile. Hope this helps. [UIC Admissions and Records - Freshman](http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/undergrad/freshman.html)

Thanks for chancing me! Here you go-

-University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (FIRST CHOICE) - Honestly I’m not sure of this school.
-University of Illinois at Chicago (3) - not too sure either sorry!
-University of Wisconsin-Madison (2) - low reach
-University of Minnesota (4) - match
-Northern Illinois University (5) - in

For Wisconsin, try to raise your GPA. Also if you get a 2000+ on the SAT’s you have a really good chance at getting in!
