Hey!
Wel I'm a transfer student and I've been offered admission in the following universities for Computer Engineering :
1. University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
2.Purdue University,West Lafayette
3.University Of Michigan,Ann Arbor
And I'm waiting for reply from Cornell University.
I'm in a fix which one should I go for...
Please help me out!!
Thanks

UIUC and Michigan are slightly better than Purdue, but it is insignificant. Cornell, should you get in, is as good as UIUC and Michigan. Are there financial restrictions or significant cost variations?

All 4 schools are a fine choice for engineering. You can't go wrong with any of them, so pick the one that leaps out at you as being the best. You will have no problem with job offers or career prospects at any of those 4.

Actually cost-wise purdue is the cheapest among the lot .... but if you see US News rankings or any other rankings its there on 11 whereas rest of the universities are ranked higher and UIUC is on5th. Cornell has an advantage as its in the Ivy League and I guess that makes a lot of difference. Fee structures of Cornell and UIUC are not that different but UMich is pretty expensive. But financial matters are secondary,I just want to pick the best of the choices I have.

UIUCcosts roughly $38,000/year, Michigan costs $42,000/year and Cornell costs $45,000 year. Of course, if you got a scholarship or financial aid, this picture changes.

Well there is no scholarship/financial aid. There was no scholarship for International Transfer students.

go to cornell if you get in in my opinion, uiuc or umich if you don't, depending on which you like better, i like uiuc's campus better than umich but umich is a more prestigious school overall, though not in engineering if i'm not mistaken

In that case, Cornell, Illinois and Michigan will al cost roughly the same. Purdue will probably be slightly cheaper than Illinois and significantly cheaper than Michigan or Cornell.

In terms of Engineering, all three are equal. MIT, Stanford, Cal and Caltech are a notch above, but after those 4, the remaining top 10 programs (Illinois, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon etc...) are roughly equal.

In terms of overall academic excellence and prestige, Cornell and Michigan are slightly better than Illinois.

In terms of campus environment and surroundings, it depends on what you like. Cornell's campus is gorgeous and Ithaca is a quaint little town. If you love the outdoors, it doesn't get much better, but it is isolated and there isn't much to do. Michigan's campus is impressive and possibly the most lively and spirited of the three, but it is not pretty like Cornell's campus. Of the three college towns you are looking into, Ann Arbor is the most cosmopolitan, conveniently located, pleasant and fun. UIUC's campus is the least impressive of the three although it has a consistant and aesthetically pleasing architecture. Urbana Champaign is a decent college town, but it is not as nice as Ann Arbor or Ihaca.
