I'm currently stuck in choosing between UIUC and Northwestern U. My educational interest is in aerospace engineering. Going to NU, I would try double majoring in mechanical and electrical engineering because these parts compose Aerospace, however I would be able to go right into Aerospace if I went to UIUC. Since my ultimate goal is going to a school such as Stanford or MIT for graduate school I am a bit loss. NU is offering me a bit more financial aid ~5k per yr, and after visitng both campuses have their unique pts that I like. Can anyone provide any suggestions?

I can advise you that double majoring would be essentially useless for aerospace purposes. You could stick with mechanical and be just fine. The electrical engineering portion of aerospace is incredibly minimal, the same as mechanical. If you want to do the double major, be my guest, but it really won’t offer you that much of an advantage.

I am sure you know all about rankings and stuff, so I don’t need to talk about that, and they don’t really matter anyway. Both schools will be able to get you where you want to go. I would say that UIUC is the right choice since it has aerospace engineering, which is what you want, but in all honesty, doing mechanical won’t really set you back any. Bottom line, you should really just choose based on which you feel more comfortable attending and living at.
