UIUC v. SUNY Bing v. Georgia Tech(Computer Science)

I got accepted to UIUC and SUNY@Binghamton, and I am still waiting for Georgia Tech's decision (I have a feeling that I might not get in..). I am majoring in Computer Science, and I can't decide among these three schools.. I kind of like big cities.. UIUC looks like they have the best computer science program, but it is kind of expensive.. Can anyone give me some advices?

Georgia tech is best then UIUC but if any of them are instate I would go to the instate one to save money.

All of them are out of state… I live in Mississippi, and Mississippi sucks…

wait. how is Georgia Tech a better school for CS than UIUC?

I don’t agree with that either.

Georgia Tech a very respectable institution, but CS at UIUC is one of the school’s most well-renowned programs. It’s got tons of well-known alumni and is home to the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and the future home of Blue Waters (most powerful supercomputer in the world, I believe).

Haha, on the wikipedia list, practically all the engineering/technology alumni listed are related to either CS or ECE.

They’re practically the same academic-wise. Pick based on location and atmosphere. Atlanta easily beats out cornfields for a location, but UIUC has a more active student body, and there are more things to do on-campus. Also, I dont know if this applies to engineering/CS at UIUC as well, but from what I have read on GTech, it’s pretty stressful because of the intense workload. Can anyone comment on that???

I think the tradeoff is whether you want to spend more time on-campus, which would really let you connect with others (UIUC wins) or off-campus, where you have the epic nightlife of Atlanta. It’s freakin’ Atlanta!!! (GTech wins)

At UIUC it is certainly stressful, but not to the extent that it is at GT. I went to UIUC and have a lot of friends who went to GT, and in comparing undergrad experiences, the guys at GT seemed to have been under a lot more constant stress.

Also, UIUC is the better CS school, though GT is still exceptional and not far behind by any means. They are close enough that I would essentially consider it a wash when it comes to program quality and would defer to more personal factors for making the choice such as those suggested by enemyunit.

UIUC is by far a better engineering school than Georgia Tech. So definately UIUC. Though Georgia Tech does have a good engineering school as it is peers with Penn State college of engineering.

^ Peers with Penn State college of engineering? Um, it’s peers with UIUC. Once you’re looking at the top 5 or 10 engineering schools in the nation, you know that they all have very respectable academics/research. From that point you just need to make your decision based on location, environment and other such factors.
