I'm an OOS student from Oregon, I'm wondering where's the best if I want to double major in Electrical & Computer E and Biomed E. Well UIUC ranked the best among them, but my family is a low-income family so probably couldn't afford me to go to an OOS school. Also, personally I'm a really urban person, and I'm pretty analytical. I know Cornell's pretty rural and Northwestern isn't that good in ECE comparing with other three, so I'm basically choosing between UIUC and CMU. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

UIUC $$<CMU $$$

so if $ are any concern, pick uiuc. cmu kids are pretty geeky compared to uiuc kids, in general. cmu is much smaller and and more tech bend than uiuc. there you have it.

i would say pick uiuc, though it is more rural than Pittsburgh.

if you’re out of state, then money is less of a factor since tuition for oos students is so ridiculously high. both programs are highly regarded and with hard work, you’ll do fine at both. my sister attended cmu and i can tell you that its a beautiful place in pittsburgh. uiuc is smack dab in central illinois with about 2 streets of “urban” areas. i’d say go to cmu and enjoy the city. that is, unless you get a ****ton of cash from uiuc.

Personally, I’d pick Cornell just because of the ivy league staus you’ll receive. But between UIUC and CMU, I’d pick CMU. Since you’re an OOS student, the cost or UIUC will be just as ridiculous. (We’re talking 40,000+) The location is better at CMU.

I’d go with the money since the difference among them isn’t huge in engineering; NU is 2nd best on your list in terms of BME (after GA Tech); it has a great co-op program (so is GA Tech) and is the best location-wise. I wouldn’t eliminate it so fast at this point. It could very well be the cheapest on your list. I expect UIUC will be the most expensive and I would actually think twice before picking it because of the cost.
